Tennessee football that is. We are right now going through the mid to late 70's all over again. Actually maybe worse bacause I am not sure how many losing seasons we had back then.

If Fulmer goes it will take a decade to rebuild (It took Majors 8 years to get us from the bottom to the SEC champions in '85).

We may go on another LONG losing streak to bammer. I don't see us beating the Gators anytime soon. Georgia? Your guess is as good as mine.

The botton line is we will not be any good for years to come.
We can watch a game fron the '98 season instead of live games for years to come to help us keep our sanity.

I hate to be so negative but this is what history of Tennessee football suggest.

I honestly believe that once we get the right coach, we will be back and STRONGER than ever.

The bad times are what make the GREAT times O so much sweeter!!!

Man what are we rebuilding? This thing has been in the toliet for awhile already. Put a feel good win on it here and there. People forget all the sloppy BS we've been treated to for ten years now. It won't take ten years to rebuild volball. Were like the stock market now. There is nowhere to go but up.

Look no further than Bama & the Gators and see what change they got. And Cut is not doing to bad over at Duke beating Vandy here.

Right, because it took FL, AL, and GA how long to rebuild under Meyer, Saban, and Richt?

You don't give us enough credit.

I think it is obvious that Cutcliffe was the one that should have had the 2.5 million dollar salary.

Saban must be the real thing. I don't think Florida had to go very far from Zook to Meyer.
Georgia took a few years.

But we have fallen so far and our three main rivals are very good now.
It may only take a year or 2 before we can compete well enough to not get humiliated on the field but I think it may take a while before we start beating them again.

Actually it is worse now than in the '70's, since we have been to the mountain. In the '70's we were actually excited to go to the Liberty Bowl or the, now defunk, Garden State Bowl.

Nope.

That is 3 programs doing poorly that quickly turned things around. You can make excuses why they are different while I can make points why they are similar. Point is, your 10 years are pessimistic and frequently a reason I hear around here for keeping CPF.

I agree with the post but I think that something is left out. While you are correct that the turn around was quick, it took each program years to finally find the right coach. For the teams mentioned, I don't think you could find a single honest fan that would say it has been easy.

To be honest, I don't see that coach out there. I like some of the choices but I don't see a Saban type coach. This will take a while.

That was what I was trying to get accross with the thread. We are in the sewer and won't be winning the SECCG for a while.
It was a 15 year drought from 1970 to 1985. I think we are looking at that type of scenerio again (we are alraedy 10 years in this drought). The fact that Fulmer has gotten away with a 10 year drought is criminal.

Yeah it is. The fact that people thought phil could get us back to national prominance was asinine.

But he teased us with getting to the game 3 times in the last 10 years. Like a junkie we thought "we are just a few plays away from actually WINNING the SECCG.:cray:
