It was all a buddy hire attempt

If this hire had went through you can bet your bottom dollar some people and some in the media would have went the angle that Tennessee is trying to get past rape lawsuits and now just hired this guy...............

Tennessee and Tennessee fans are darned if they do and darned if they don't........If this happened at Berkeley maybe the media says something about what a few fans did which may not have been good..........but all media would be saying how brave and courageous the majority of the fan base was by standing up for what they wanted and what they believed in and got something done without calling the man a pedophile enabler.

From the article:

I have followed Coach Schiano's accomplishments throughout his career and have been fortunate to get to know him and his family over the last several years.

OMG. Currie was willing to let Tennessee football go over the precipice just to hire a buddy.

And that is what would've happened if Schiano came here.

Based solely on the merits of his so-called accomplishments, Schiano was not deserving of being offered the Tennessee job. He would've had to have been fired in three years and we'd be in worse shape than now.

Two things stick out, one I get the other not so much...

1) When asked if he was using a search firm... "Not this time." I see what he did there.
2) "It will be expensive, explosive.."and some other BS... where in the hell does that fit in the Schiano hire (as a coach)?

Well...

1. This was predetermined. He cryptically gives it away saying he knew Schiano for years. Getting to know a mans family, career, and accomplishments all while trying to run an entire Department of Athletics screams favoritistic BS.

2. Well, Currie didn’t lie about one thing. It was explosive. Just not the way he was expecting. More like his “home run hire” was an attempt at a bunt hire. It exploded in his face.

What I’d give to know if he even really contacted anyone other than GS. The Kelly camp said he turned down an offer from UT......I’d bet money that was a planted story by Currie himself

Doubt it. It's even more sickening to think that Gruden, Petersen or another grand slam may have been interested but we didn't even try. People need to realize THIS is the type of crap we are dealing with at the top of the Tennessee AD.

Dig deeper... How in the hell did Currie even land this job? I think I know the answer.

Says something about Currie being best buds w Shiano.

Yeah, turns out that Currie, Schiano, and Big Jim Haslam are all three "best buds." Now we can begin to see the real picture of whats happening to the search for a head coach... or should I say, the lack of a real search?

Turns out Currie and Schiano were good friends all along so that backs up what I thought earlier that hardly anybody else was even looked at during this fiasco of a coaching search...Really sad. Tennessee AD releases statement regarding Greg Schiano and the Vols coaching search - CBSSports.com

But that's when you tell your bud: "dude, I love you but I can't hire you. You're innocent, but fever of sexual allegation is so hot now, I can't touch you because of PSU. "
