It lays at firmly at Josh`s door

Josh gave several pitchers the chance to come through but they didn't. He tried on his part. Now, since they didn't learn as a 12 year old not to throw fastballs belt high down the middle someone needs to let them know about this.
I hate it for Josh. He is going to take a ton of heat this week and deserves some of it but I am sure he didn’t tell them to throw a fastball down the middle, swing a terrible pitches or drop a ball at second to extend an inning. The players need to take some ownership for this weekend as well and get better in practice this week.

Fair points. You could also build a case that Tony could have been even more successful if he had controlled both his and his team's emotions a little more.
excellent point. The ‘22 team clearly lost focus on what the objective was.

Agreed if it wasn’t for him we probably aren’t even in the game but your senior leader just cannot have that bad of a strikeout at that moment of the game.
Reese is the least of our worries. Bad at bats happen at clutch moments even by MLB Allstar’s but he’s been one of our best hitters.

I truly believe the NCAA wasn't going to let that 2022 team get to Omaha. I bet if you went back and analyzed the strike zones vs ND, you could confirm it.
NCAA sent that crew to Knoxville with a purpose—to tame those Villain Vols. I think they were on a mission to put the Vols in their place.

Agreed maybe I was a little harsh on him after that frustrating loss Friday. I just felt like that at bat was an opportunity for us to blow it open and to have that strikeout was disheartening.

So you are saying he was consistent this weekend??

And look I hate piling on a guy but if you don’t see the inconsistency from what should be a leader on this team I don’t know what to tell you but maybe we should be more worried about the bullpen than a guy going 3-15 at the plate for the weekend.
I agree completely about the bullpen. That is the biggest issue. They continue to blow leads.

It’s those fastballs over the middle of the plate when the pitcher has a 0-2 count that
make me scream at the TV.

The last part of your post is actually the biggest worry. Reese has been one of our best hitters yet he’s still sitting at sub 1.000 OPS overall and below .900 OPS in conference. That’s simply nowhere near good enough in the SEC where you have to be able to display power throughout most of your lineup. And for whatever reason, we just haven’t been able to find that this year.

is the talent down that much? That collapse to LSU was really sad to watch.

I think it’s somewhat down in the pen, but more importantly there just isn’t as much experience as we’ve typically seen in the recent past. I’m sure others may have a different view but we mostly lack the experience and thus lack the necessary confidence when we need it the most. JMO.

GBO!!!
