I say this with all possible respect, perhaps baseball isn't the sport for you.
Take how you want but he is supposed to be the leader of the team and strikes out swinging at three pitches that were not strikes. Look I love the Vols and baseball and you can search my posts and see I very rarely criticize any player but that was a terrible at bat when we had an opportunity to blow the game open.

I recognize we probably aren’t in the game if he doesn’t go 3-5 but for all the good he did that was a terrible at bat at the most critical point of the game.

Hard to complain about Reese when he did go 3-5 but that at bat with the bases loaded was very bad and deserves criticism. Pitcher just threw 4 balls in a row and Reese proceeds to swing at the first pitch which was in the dirt. Then swung at 2 more balls way out of the zone to strikeout. Bad at bat at a massive moment with LSU on the ropes.
Agreed if it wasn’t for him we probably aren’t even in the game but your senior leader just cannot have that bad of a strikeout at that moment of the game.

I don’t know who Mike White is, but I still think it must be tough for Danny working at two major colleges—

It depends if we’re talking about Georgia basketball coach Mike White (Danny’s bro) or the Mike White who wrote and appeared in the movie School of Rock and is the show runner for HBO’s The White Lotus. Either way seems strange for them to choose our baseball coach.

Elander IS over his head. When I heard that Mike White was going to meet with the team and get their input on a new head coach, I had a lot of concerns. He went with what they wanted and here we are. Major college programs are a tough place for on the job training. That’s the path we are on. Hopefully these lessons get learned quickly.
Whose Mike White?

It's apparent that that swagger is not gonna come from CJE. That's perfectly fine. However, we need someone to step into that roll be it an assistant coach or a couple of players. A good start would be drilling that arrogant prick from LSU in the ear hole on his first at bat to remind him this isn't his house. If the benches clear, even better.
The swagger didn't come from Tony either. It cam from guys like Drew Gilbert and Jordan Beck.

Forgive me for this negative post but I love my Vols and this years season is hurting and as hard as I try to make allowances for losing the last five games (when each game something stupid happened) but a sequence of events last night was simply head scratching.

4-1 up in the 8th and Arvidsson, one of SECs best, walks the No 8 batter. He clearly didn't have his "A" game tonight with no command whatsoever specially of the fast ball. For any pitcher sometimes its just not there so you yank him.
But he allowed to continue with the 9th hitter and exactly the same result, you have now walked 8 & 9.This is definitely not his night so don't waste 7 great innings from Mack there is a range of options still in the ballpen.
What!! he is still pitching? and no surprise he has loaded the bases with none out with 3 straight walks. How could you let Arvidsson stay in the game so long? The only person more shocked than me would be Frank Anderson if he was watching
Noooo still no change and he is still pitching, and was really lucky that a blooper didn't clear Short Stop for a couple of runs.

After last night and add that to the four straight back breaking losses the confidence in holding on to any lead must have totally evaporated. Now look at the regression this season in Newstrom, Abernathy, Marin, Brown, and Krenzel (confidence seems to be total shot) and Rhudy who look about as stable as Joe Biden. I know I should be patient but right now I cannot come to any other conclusion other that Coach Elander just might be way in over his head. Please please prove me wrong

Maybe this a warning to all the Coach Barnes detractors, appreciate him whilst he is here as it is fast becoming clear how good Vitello was.

GBO
So does the win tonight lay squarely at his feet too?

3 for 5 is inconsistent? Clearly you know NOTHING about baseball.
Please read my following post. I acknowledged him going 3-5 and we probably aren’t even in the game if not for that and is catch to save the HR but the strikeout he had with bases loaded is not something a senior leader does and deserves criticism.

Think of my opinion what you want but if this team doesn’t start taking advantage when we have RISP they are going to struggle to stay above .500.

I agree Josh will take the heat for all the team loses but at some point the players have to get the job done between the lines , we’ve been a bit unlucky and could easily be 500 in league play , our defense and starting pitching have been pretty good , offense and bullpen less Appenzeller has been disappointing , at some point with our slow start we’ll need to win a few series to get in the mix and with our bullpen struggles it’s gonna be tough

I agree Josh will take the heat but is it fair to him?? I think some criticism is fair. He left Ardvison in the game way too long Friday night but offensively we left 9 runners stranded on base. A timely hit or better approach at the plate could have changed that game to where the grand slam didn’t even matter.

Some of the criticism is fair but like Tony used to say it’s about all of em , I think even what appears to be a bad move can be positive if the player gets the job done but Josh does need a shorter leash on these bullpen guys , Arv’s body language was awful Friday night and was wild from his first pitch , don’t worry about hurting someone’s feelings , if want to pitch more pitch better

Hmmm maybe check his weekend stats. Maybe I do know a little about baseball and understand that one night doesn’t make a season so yes inconsistent!!

So you are saying he was consistent this weekend??

And look I hate piling on a guy but if you don’t see the inconsistency from what should be a leader on this team I don’t know what to tell you but maybe we should be more worried about the bullpen than a guy going 3-15 at the plate for the weekend.

Josh gave several pitchers the chance to come through but they didn't. He tried on his part. Now, since they didn't learn as a 12 year old not to throw fastballs belt high down the middle someone needs to let them know about this.
