It Is What It Is With Heupel

Y'all keep on saying we 'made' the playoff last year. We didn't.
We scooted our way in at the last minute with a big win over a Vanderbilt team that wasn't a playoff team and wouldn't have been even if they had beat us to end the year.
The Georgia game was where we could have 'made' the SEC title game.
And we fukked it off as per usual.
Then some losses late by Alabama and Ole Miss let us back into the playoff.
Keep the story straight.
We haven't made anything.
We haven't won anything either.
Most teams don't win anything. I like that at least we're in the conversation.

He made the playoff last year with a freshman QB. Hate to be the excuses guy, but he certainly needs more bodies. The roster is thin somehow, which I don't understand and he has one of the youngest rosters in the conference, maybe the country.
Great point. I thought the pre season narrative was increased roster depth particularly on both lines. Not sure that is in evidece and as said earlier we simply are not recruiting at a high enough level. Particulaely since they need to close the roster gap with top tier.
I will add that I think linebacking has been a weakness every year.

And this happens way too much at Tennessee. Allowing struggling coaches or QBs to have career performances against us has become something of a tradition. It pre-dates Huepel’s arrival. I’m hoping he somehow figures out how to change the culture sufficiently to snuff out the consistent pi$$ing away of massive opportunities on the field.

I think Coach Heupel has what it takes. He just hasn’t managed to do it yet in year 5. There remains quite a bit of damaged left from a clownshow of former coaches and ADs to fix.
To recall Gov Bob Clements call-- "How Long?"
