I laughed back in the summer when I saw a couple of threads that said something like “it feels like 1998 again”. I remember posting something to the affect that such sentiments were an insult to that great team. Well to whoever it was that posted that, I’m sorry to burst your bubble but I think this years’ team would have been destroyed by the 98 Vols. And if you haven’t noticed. Kids playing for us now were babies in 98 or still a wink in their daddies eyes.

If this defense played on the 2012 team we would've been in the SEC Championship. 2012 had an explosive offense, horrible defense. This years team has an anemic offense, above average defense. The stats won't show it but if it weren't for all the 3 and outs by the offense this season we would have a top 20 defense in the country hands down. They are not the reason for this abysmal season and that's a shame. I'm really proud of their effort this season.

Any defense that gives up 500-600 plus yards to any team is not above average in my book

It does indeed but some differences are:
UT has the benefit to get an interim in there now, recharge, and finish well w/ 8-4 season while getting the new hire done early. This would get us back in good graces w/ recruits and some good media attention, showing people that UT demands better. Most of all, it is what the players deserve.there are 5 games left, these guys deserve to enjoy them and be given a chance to win and avoid any more of this circus.
It amazes me how an AD in this situation wouldn't rip the band-aid to win back fans but also get 8wins and a not horrible bowl, to get positive attention and get the new guy in early enough to get recruiting and also even (if he is out of coaching now),get to know the current roster and staff. It would be great to make the change, finish 8-4, and have the new coach at our bowl game doing interviews.JMO

The 2012 team would destroy this team

In Butch Jones 5th year this is very disturbing indeed, one way or another, the Vols are going to have to start all over again and it could take years to rebuild this team, sad for all Vol fans:popcorn:

So true on the 5 wins. Anyone who thinks we can win 8 games must have the same orange colored glasses as those that said this year felt like ‘98. Delusional psychosis requires meds my friends. We may want to provide a link to Hoffman LaRoche.
