It only sucks for the fans because they want Kiffin and now the program has to reset.
If Kiffin wasn’t doing a good job, it would only suck for him when the fans got him fired and he had to reset.
It always sucks for somebody and there has never been loyalty from the university, fans, or coaches. It’s always been transactional, but didn’t have NIL and portal considerations. Kiffin didn’t invent the portal, playoff system, or recruiting periods, tv contracts and commercialization.
All the ‘loyalty and family’ talk was based upon a system of indenturing and penalizing players, while everyone else got to do what they wanted. It was a mirage fans bought into and encouraged with every new revenue stream further corporatizing the sport. It’s just business.
He still has a 9 game schedule and has to play Ole Miss at LSU as well as Texas A&M, another CFP team. And that’s not what kept Ole Miss out of the playoffs. Losing to Florida at the end of the year, coupled with Bama losing to OU is how we got in.
Indiana played Ohio State tough last year in Columbus with a QB on a torn ACL. Now he has Mendoza. Indiana is going to beat Ohio State. Indiana went into Oregon, another 5 star power and smoked em.
Again…Ole Miss lost 3 games last year. Florida, LSU, Kentucky. So it wasn’t just the LSU game. Losing to a bad Kentucky team and Florida team was ultimately they’re undoing. The point is the 9 game schedule will be easier to adjust to being the coach at LSU vs being the coach at Ole Miss.
The bottom lime is If Ole Miss doesn't lose to LSU they would have been in the playoffs last year.
As I've stated, I don't think Indianna or Oregon are any better than an 8-4 SEC team. Maybe Indianna could make the argument they are more comparable to a 9-3 team, kind of like a Vandy team. Regardless, neither coach has beat an SEC team to this point.
The answer is YesReports coming out this morning have been wild. He's leaving but is delaying the meeting with players because he's trying to get coaches to come with him. Also, reportedly, he's mad he's not going to be allowed to coach Ole Miss in the playoffs while accepting the LSU job. He's trying to stand on a bridge that he burnt lmao
This has playoff implications involved and I'm not even sure if they will make it at this point. If FSU can go undefeated and be left out, im not so sure Ole Miss can't be left out too
Oh, I get it. I’ve said as much also in prior posts. The loyalty component (to the school) is fan centric, the rest of it (revenue, coaches, AD’s) is purely business centric. I was just speaking to the situation OM fans are now in as we, as a fan base, know exactly what that’s like.It only sucks for the fans because they want Kiffin and now the program has to reset.

There's leaving for a "better job."
And then there's leaving while telling the AD you want to finish the season while also threatening to take your entire staff if not allowed to...While also telling your Offensive staff if they are not on the plane with him immdeiately, they will not have a spot on the LSU staff.
If he had any respect for the school, the team, he would have left professionally. He could have just as easily brought those other coaches along after the UM season ended for any that wanted to go, but also wanted to finish.
It's not that LK left UM for LSU. Most coaches would have. It's how he left, acting like a spoiled brat if he didn't get his way. If he wanted to see the season through, then he should have told LSU he'd love to make the move...and if they want him, they have to wait until the season is over for UM...then announcements can be made.
Outstanding post. Can’t add to that. What’s more interesting is why so many continue to fall over themselves to make excuses for Lane Kiffin.
The guy made all those supposedly heartfelt testimonials in the media about how he has grown and become a family man. Heck, he even claimed to have prayed on this decision in this most recent statement. And then, he bolts on the university that had pretty much given him everything - and was ready to do more long term.
We can say all day that “it’s just business” and “he’s taking a step up,” but in the end Kiffin continues to act as a mercenary, creating a distracting media circus wherever he goes, and making it look like he’s committed right before stepping out with the next “hot girl” who walks by.
Yes, LSU is an easier path to a national championship (for goodness’ sake, Ed Orgeron won one there - and he is incompetent as a HC). Yes, he is going to get more $, but sheesh - the guy is already a millionaire several times over. And if he had stayed and delivered a championship at Ole Miss, his professional reputation would be solidified as greatness.
Lane Kiffin is a skilled coach. Be is also human garbage. He held Ole Miss’s program hostage at the end, putting them in an impossible position … and then he tries to play the victim when their mean ol’ AD wouldn’t let him continue to coach in the playoffs even though he just announced officially that their university just isn’t good enough for him.
Seriously. Stop rooting for this guy and making excuses for his B.S.
Or continue to do so but stop complaining when your kid and others demonstrate literally every negative character trait that we supposedly want to avoid as decent, responsive human beings. Get on the “Lane Train,” I guess.
When someone shows you what they are, believe them.
What if the season ended and he decided to stay at OM (especially if they somehow won the title), leaving them out in the cold? Given his history of being mercurial and a d-bag, they were never going to risk that. There's leaving for a "better job."

OM's offer was basically identical to LSU's. Ultimately, I think Lane left because he thinks he's better than Ole Miss and would rather coach at the bigger, more prestigious brand. He already tried to leave that job twice (once for Auburn then for UF). I actually think that aspect of it has more to do with LSU giving him a better chance to consistently compete for titles. I don't think winning a title is his highest priority as a coach.
