I’ve been thinking about the power struggle/grab going on with the Haslams.
Jimmy is not presently on the BOT.
But, his brother Governor Bill H is the chair.

Members – UT Board of Trustees

I’m wondering if the states Governor is automatically on the Board and is always the Chair?
If so, does he automatically leave the BOT when a new Governor is elected?

My point to all this?
Those that want Jimmy disassociated with the program probably aren’t going to see that happen while his brother is BOT chair.

Yes, the has-slum claws are deep into UT and not just money, worse, political.

Sorry, I can't specifically answer your question but I think it is a good question to ask.

I know most of us would like to lose the has-slums, reguardless of their money. Is there possibily a way to keep their money and lose their influence? That would seem like the best scenario.

All other power 5 schools have big time boosters. Most of them seem to keep the boosters decisions minimal, especially if they are as dumb as has-slum.

I think if you can remove the political ties that has-slum have then we are in a better position to keep their money and lose their influence.

Go Vols.

Ex Officio
Definition from Nolo’s Plain-English Law Dictionary
(ex oh-fish-ee-oh) Latin for "from the office." Used when someone holds one position because of the authority he or she has from another position (such as being on a committee simply because one is president of the corporation).
Definition provided by Nolo’s Plain-English Law Dictionary.

The Governor of the State of Tennessee, who is an ex officio voting member of the Board, shall serve as ex officio Chair of the Board.

Bylaws – UT Board of Trustees

So, I take that to mean that as soon as there is a new Governor that there will be a new chair.
I’d say that would be the time to make a move on Jimmy.
Unless Jimmy gets jail time from the Pilot trucking scandal,
Which I very much doubt will happen. I’m sure he has the greatest lawyers and they will have a way for others at Pilot to take all of the blame.
I’d love for some reporter to ask Governor Bill if he’s proud of his brother.

Such a conflict of interest

How about the conflict of interest in shoving a gas tax hike through the state legislature, when your family is in the business. Haslam had Beth Harwell break several committee rules to get the bill to the floor, plus he bought votes with taxpayer money, then when that got passed, suddenly Warren Buffet buys out Pilot Oil. Haslam never disclosed that Pilot makes money off the float between collecting sales tax and sending it to the state. A 6 cent hike can mean a lot more profit for them. The whole state got played by these crooks.

Tennessee roads have been deteriorating in recent years. Also, our state is one of a handful in the country without a meaningful revenue adjustment in years to address the spending we need to have for fixes.

I get that your mad, but Governor Haslam did the right thing here. The majority of the legislature did too. In fact, recent polling shows an overwhelming majority of Tennesseans approve of the hike at the pump to fix our roads.

With the Schiano fiasco, will there be any new members of the Board of Trustees and Haslam's term as governor expires in 2018 if i am not mistaken.

The governor appoints them. A governor by the name of Haslam.

The president and chancellor answer to these people. Again, people are clueless if they think all of a sudden Haslam had his influence stripped of him yesterday

There’s one that expires this year, a couple that expire next, and several that expire in 2019, including Charles Anderson

Those of you outside of the state that are only concerned with UT Football just need to shut up about Haslam, the Governor.

Haslam was elected Governor by the people of the state of Tennessee. UT is a state educational institution as is many other state university and colleges. So yes as Governor he is going to have a say on aspects at the flagship university in the state.

He has done wonders in terms of giving high school graduates (... and most recently adults ...) a chance at education in the state of Tennessee to better themselves. That is what is MOST IMPORTANT not winning a dang football game. Stop it with the everything a Haslam has done in this state is bad agenda.
