On September 15, the Gators invade Neyland.September 17, 2011 we lost there by ten 33-23,( a week later the Gators beat Kentucky at Kentucky 48-10, of course we lost to Kentucky). The Gators finished the season 3-5 SEC and 7-6 overall. Tennessee finished 1-7 SEC and 5-7 overall.

All the facts point to yes. This game is the game. Thoughts?

No....although many here act like it's an elimination game.

It's the first conference game of the year, and the East winner will likely have no less than 2 losses by season's end.

I think it depends a lot on how the game is played and the final score. A UT win really sets you up nicely for a good run at the SECe title and I think does a lot for the attitude of the UT fanbase and the administration. A UF win? I think honestly -- and this may sound strange -- but a loss by a couple of touchdowns might be easier to take than a loss by a couple of points.

You're right. That sounds really strange.

I dont look at it as an elimination game .. but it is a huge measuring stick, if we struggle with ncsu and lose to uf then its gonna be a long season .. if we beat ncsu by 21 and uf by 10, then .....

It's the most important game of the year to me. I'll be taking a group of about 20 people down "most of which are Virginia tech fans" to see how awesome neyland can be when Tennessee is in full force. It's a make or break game IMO

How can it be a make or break game when the other team has perennially beaten us for 20 years and is better than us?

A close loss would mean one of two things...UF's defense was up to the task against UT's passing offense, or UF's offense was better than advertised.

A 2TD loss would validate what most people thought going into the season. UF's offense can't put enough points on the board to keep up with UT's offense.

We can survive a loss with some significant wins later. However, a win would provide a psychological lift that could make the difference later on. So it isn't make it or break it, but it is important.

For me it would be huge for UT to win this. I live in Florida and most of friends are Gator Fans. Need I say more?

Yes, this is a very important game. Florida is the most beatable they've been since the Zook years. Seven games in a row is enough. If we lose this game I don't see how we can still play for the east, because I can see us beating South Carolina, Georgia, and Bama. I would be happy with beating the gators and one of those teams. If we lose this one and NC State.....well, let's hope that doesn't happen.

I'm not really sure what you said, as I was too busy staring at your avi.

not for the season but it could help Dooley. A win over UF could balance out the loss to UK

If we lose to UF, the fanbase will fold the tent on Dools. He would have to pull some significant upsets later to win them back, but there's nothing on his resume' that says he's capable of that kind of turnaround as a coach. So, yes, its make or break.

Im looking at it from a different direction. Which is taking the east out of equation until its worth worrying about.

Typically 1 game doesn't "make or break" a season.

UT has been anything but typical the last several years so individual games against certain opponents early in the year will carry a lot more weight than they normally do.

This program needs good things to happen and that needs to be early IMO. The NC St and UF games are extremely important for this reason. Its a shot in the dark to know how the team will react if it starts 1-2.

I wouldn't say its make or break but it is a huge game. We lose that game and the mood will be same old crap. We come out of that game 4-0 and everyone is pumped.

Not make or break for the season. Might break Dooley though. If they can't beat this version of the Gators then the rest of the SEC schedule doesn't look promising. Best chance to end the streak in years, need to get it done.
