Is the 3 permanent teams argument overblown?

No. I prefer revenge. If we had a 17-3 record against Florida the last 20 games I wouldn't care if we had them on the schedule or not. However, we don't. Which means we owe them.

You guys want to run away from the teams that have owned us the last 20 years. I want us to repay that favor. The loser mentality is to run away from the bully rather than hitting them back.
I’m the guy that wants to rotate the whole schedule so we can play everybody.

I want us to play our best RIVALS. We owe Florida a yearly butt whopping after what has happened the last 20 years.

Well, that's not very competitive. Who cares if they are rivals. History doesn't matter. Are you scared of competition? Why don't you want to play the very best of the best?

I agree completely. With 12 opponents rotating through your schedule every other year, strength of schedule is going to mostly be a wash inside the conference. What’s going to be tough is UGA, Florida, SC, OU having that quality P4 opponent on their schedule every year. They may schedule technical colleges for their other OOC games just so they can make it through the schedule.

The most annoying thing is people still thinking we are in the 4-team playoff era. We are going to 16 next year. We just saw a two-loss team win a national title. We just are not going to see undefeated teams anymore, not with 17 games.

Yep… I posted something like that earlier. It’s going to be NFL-like where good teams can end up with 2-3 losses. The goobers that freak out whenever we’re trailing in the 2nd quarter won’t comprehend.

I think you honor certain rivalries because I enjoy the traditions of the game. Regardless of whether we keep the Big 3 as our permanent rivals (unlikely IMO) or we keep our oldest most traditional rivals, it’s gonna be a murderers row. The thing that’s going to occur is the unintended consequences that no one sees coming. Someone is gonna have a new rivalry that captivates the conference.

I just can't imagine the hand wringing about this. We are literally going to be replacing New Mexico State with an SEC opponent in November. This is a good thing. If we are going to do this stupid super conference thing, then at least give me as many good games as possible.

That’s why I just don’t care who the permanent games are. In 1992, we lost the Auburn and Ole Miss rivalries. Very quickly, nobody cared and we moved on to UGA and Florida. Same thing will happen now. It’d actually be neat to pick up an annual game with Texas or something.

I would sacrifice Vandy for Texas but not Bama or Florida.

Cause we've been owned by Alabama, Florida, and Georgia the last 20 years. We owe them. I want us to get our revenge by beating them every year for the next 20. After that we can call it even and move on.

That's not wanting to play the best. That's just revenge. You said it's about competition and playing the best and not being scared and we are a bunch of cowards because we wanted to keep a 100 year+ rivalry. You just want revenge, not actual competition. Revenge is actually loser mentality. Losers don't dwell on the past.

Football is a game of inches. Any advantage Tennessee can get, I will gladly accept. If the SEC sees fit to give us the 15th and 16th ranked teams in terms of recruiting as annual opponents, I will take it without a second thought. The schedule will be difficult with 10 P4 opponents, no mater what.

No. Losers try to forget the losses of the past. Winners use it as fuel. Ever seen the Michael Jordan commercial where he mentions all his failures then says that's why he succeeds. Hell Jordan held the grudge of being cut from varsity as a freshman all the way to his Hall of Fame ceremony.

Dwelling on past failures as motivation is exactly what fuels winners. Pretending it never happened and beating up on weak opponents to make yourself feel better is the losers mentality.

Only folks with loser mentalities are scared of competition. I think the top programs should play the other top programs they've historically had rivalries with. So this is how the 3 permanent opponents should go:

Tennessee - Alabama, Florida, Georgia
Florida - Georgia, Tennessee, LSU
Georgia - Florida, Auburn, Tennessee
Alabama - Auburn, Tennessee, LSU
Auburn - Alabama, Georgia, LSU
LSU - Florida, Alabama, Auburn

Next up the old southwest conference foes should be playing each other:

Texas - Oklahoma, A&M, Arkansas
Oklahoma - Texas, A&M, Arkansas
A&M - Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas
Arkansas - Texas, Oklahoma, A&M

And finally the historic scrubs can go at it.
My goodness this is so dumb. What about the rest of the sec? Mathematically this won't work out.
