Is Tennessee a DREAM JOB?

It certainly is. Even with all the crap Tennessee has been through it's still a top 15 job in the country! In your profession wouldn't you like to have a top 15 job in the country? There are a lot of coaches out there dying for a job like this, we just need to find the right one.

How successful? You could be a candidate.

Currently coaching a one loss pee wee team in Mississippi. The kids down here are athletic freaks. I have a 9 yr old QB that can pass accurately out to about 25 yds. All my running backs are little gazelles.

Top 15 .... maybe ..barely

In kind of order....

1) Texas
2) Ohio State
3) Oklahoma
4) Florida
5) Georgia
6) LSU
7) Alabama
8) Penn State
9) Auburn
10) Oregon
11) USC
12) Michigan
13) Notre Dame
14) FSU
15) Nebraska
16) Va Tech
17) Tenneesee
18) Arizona
19) Arizona State
20) OK State

I know some of these can be argued and i took this from SI but i dont argue that Tennessee is in the 15-20 range . If you take into consideration the issues witht eh adminstartion and board of trustees they may be lower. They just added to the faiclities, but they all have nice facilities.

Just get a grip right and see that we are not has high up on the pecking order as people seem to think. I still love the Vols, but these arent your daddies vols or maybe even your brothers.

Ofcourse its a dream Job!!!!

We are the University of Tennessee... 1998 National Champions

Just think of all the Head Coaches out there that were begging for the job back when Kiffen got it and then again when CDD got it.

Seriously?

This is what happens when you get a program run by a couple of ego driven head coaches for 31 years.

More worried about their own records and legacy than the overall good of the program.

It didn't help that Fulmer was loyal to a fault and an exceptionally poor judge on personnel decisions once his crutch left in Cutcliffe.

It's a middle of the pack SEC job but a top 20 job. It would probably be a dream job for a former player but not most elite coaches without ties to the state.

No but we could easily be if some of the administrative mess was cleaned up.

The fact is there are about 3 to 5 elite jobs in the country and then we fall in the next 10 to 15 teams. We have facilities to compete with anyone in the nation and a recruiting budget that exceeds almost everyone in the nation.

Having to have one of the largest recruiting budgets is not always a plus to a coach. There is a reason it is so large because the local talent is not there. You have to go find the players.

Our instate talent/coaching is as bad as our recruiting budget is good. The recruits we are close to all have an instate power (in some cases even 2 or 3) to spurn before coming to UT, except the North Carolina kids. Plus don't foget our exceedingly realistic fan base.
 This job is a dream, but only if you are having a nightmare.

This. We've never had many bandwagon fans in other states. It's a dream job for people from TN only.

It's true most of that budget is spent on travel BUT a program having commitment to give the coach all the resources he needs is a definite plus.

Any coach in America outside of Spurrier, Osborne, Paterno, and Bowden would have jumped at the chance come to TN through the 90's and early 00's. Those 4 coaches were coaching at schools that were their alma mater's or the schools they built from the ground up. TN did, and can again, have a very, very strong brand name that attracts top flight talent. Everything that makes a football school successful is in-place for TN. If people consider Oregon or Oklahoma "elite" jobs or "dream" jobs type schools then leaving TN out is stupid because they have about the same amount of in-state talent as TN.

TN can rise again if the powers that be will allow it to happen. Seriously, Derek freaking Dooley can land top 15 classes with zero results, the academic administration making his job harder, and with no name value... to me that is pretty impressive considering almost all of it is based on the value of the TN and SEC brand. I can only imagine what a coach could do if he had a strong name and was winning.
