I was wondering if the student section has assigned seating or if I could squeeze in there to make a ruckus during the season.

yeah, it's assigned. sometimes you can squeeze in, but when it gets too crowded, or you look out of place, the ushers will ask for your ticket.

What's wrong with standing the entire game? The student section is the best place to be!

Are the studnets going to have just as many seats as last year or are they taking some away due to the lack of student attendance last year?

They better not take seats away from students. There were plenty of other sections that also weren't full during last year's debacle.

If they take away student seating, it won't be because of the lack of attendance last year, it will be so they can increase the number of seats they can charge for... Which is what they did at TBA. Its all in the name of money...

They started charging $15/game for student tickets last year...that and the awful season last year were the two main reasons for decreased student attendance in '08.

Nothng is for sure, but currently it's going game by game. Seniorty gets early game ticket choice. As the season progresses, attendance to "smaller" games allows for earlier selection of "larger" game tix.

They went on sale the first week of classes last year IIRC. Starts with seniors, the juniors, and so on (not by age, but the amount of credit hours you have). I believe each group had about 3-4 days each, then it moved onto the next.

Actually, they only gave each group one day to order, which sucked for my roommate because he forgot to order on his day. But since season tickets didn't sell out, he still got to go to all of the games.

The thing is, is if your a senior and miss your day you have to wait until freshman order.
The reason for the cost is not to just screw students it was because the AAFL was suppose to start up last spring but it fell through. UT was promised alot of money for the rights to use the field and facilities. So when they did their budgets for last year there was a huge hole and to fill it(cant loose profits) they charged the students. we went from paying zero to the 3rd highest paid tickets. Also Hamilton is a douche. When it comes to increase in anything for students it is suppose to go in front of the SGA but Hami found a loop hole and made an extra buck.

So...is the answer yes or no? I got conflicting answers. And if it makes any difference, we want to stand in the VolNation section

Ok, I am a sophomore at UT, and yes student tickets are assigned. However, there are always about two rows of people standing in each assigned row, at least for the big games. Ushers don't do anything, put most ppl will not be happy if you try and crowd in their seats. I think you are talking about Orange Nation and that is a waste of money.

Yeah, I'm not a UT student, but I wanted to go to a game with my now-fiancee, who is. I called the ticket office and asked if there was a way I could buy a ticket for the student section, or if she could get what, at the time, was still a free student ticket next to wherever my paying ticket was. They said they couldn't do that, but then recommended to me that I just buy a ticket to anywhere in the stadium, then go to the student section and pretend like I belonged there anyway.

The seats are technically assigned to each ticket, but as everyone in the student section is just kinda generally standing in the bleachers and what not, it turned out to not be a big deal. Now, the people who had a ticket for where I was standing next to her did try for a minute to raise a fuss, but we all fit in there and it wasn't a big deal at the end of the day.

So, I'd say you could probably squeeze your way in, but just be aware that you are running a risk of being sent to your original seats. It's not likely to happen, especially if you look close to the right age to be a student, but just be flexible.

What exactly is the Orange Nation? Do you actually get football tickets?

Orange Nation is basically a student organization that is a "dedicated and hard core" group of fans. They had a couple of perks, like free shirts, food, tailgate parties before games, etc. Before students had to pay for tickets they were guaranteed seats in section D-F in the first 40 rows (this is the biggest reason students signed up for it). However, now that the school charges for tickets, the guaranteed good seats are not part of the deal. Without these seats, Orange Nation will quickly go down the drain in my opinion.

This is precisely the reason I will not rejoin ON this year.

Orange nation is terrible. Straight up. Its a group to fill seats even though they're guranteed to be filled. But these kids pay to be Vol fans. Stupid.
