Is Smart the type of coach to run up the score?

We all know we have a huge spread for Saturday's game but I am still thinking Tennessee will cover because Smart is a Saban disciple and Saban is really good about calling off the dogs in a mismatch. For evidence Saban is a little over 54% lifetime in covering the spread but only 33% when the spread is over 35 points. I think that is one reason so many coaches respect Saban when they should resent his success. In fact, I am fairly confident that Saban will do his best not to humiliate Pruitt considering their previous relationship and Saban's history of pulling back when the lead gets substantial. My only concern with Smart is I have heard he and Pruitt did not get along so if this becomes a sibling rivalry type thing Smart might take a lead and run with it.

One other thing, I wonder if our guys play with a chip on their shoulder. Everyone, especially in the media, have written them off as inferior to everyone else in the SEC. I think this either makes them quit kind of like we saw against Florida if they get down early or whips them into proving everyone wrong. I am hoping for the latter of course.

He’ll run it up vs Tennessee. Believe that.

I dont know what he'll do. I have seen some UGA fans hoping he does. Even faking a victory knee at the end and throwing a bomb for a TD.

I'm not one who has an issue with teams blowing out teams big time. Calling the same plays, etc. i just feel bad for UT players because I'm sure it feels way worse getting beat 50-0 than 35-21 or something like that.

He doesn't need help in the polls, so I'd say no.

No need to leave in starters. He may allow the backups to continue to "run the offense" and make it uglier. I have no problem letting your backups run the offense properly no matter what the score is.

Except for the last 2-3 minutes of the game, I really don't think there's any such thing as running up the score. He should score all he can and bury anybody he's recruiting against.
yeah, that's what i'd do.

He'll shorten the game after halftime. He knows Pruitt so he may put the scout team in in the second half to keep it within 50..

The game is at UGA and UGA fans still feel some hatred for Pruitt for whatever reason.

The final score may be as ugly as they can make it. Not sure what kind of relationship Smart/Pruitt had when they worked together at Bama and whether they're friends. That might factor in some.

Him and Pruitt do not like each other, he will try to run it up. If this team has any pride, they'll at least make a half ass effort to stop it.

Would we? To answer your question, yes he will run it up over 50 IMO. If we cant stop them its our problem and maybe it will do the players some good

Its simple, once the game is no longer in doubt, you play further and further down the depth chart to get those players experience. They play the same game plan, no doubt they are all in to win as many points as they can but usually at some point, when you get into 3rd and 4th string, their lack of ability/experience matches with the other team on the field and the points dry up. Sadly, we are the other team right now.

"What is this deal that they do not like each other? What evidence is there of it? "

My understanding is they were close at one time. Pruitt was there for the birth of Smart's kids. Then Smart did not want him when he went to UGA and I think it put a strain on their relationship.

Agree, it’s not a novel concept to score as much as you can in a sporting event like some pretend it is. It’s also not bad sportsmanship

Agree. Voters look at things like final score, and you owe it to your players to put them in the best position to achieve their goals. If the roles were reversed you can guarantee that Pruitt would do the same
