I don't think many non-Tennessee/non-Virginia Tech fans will be making plans to watch this game on New Years Eve. I live in the midwest and I don't know of anyone who will stay at home or is planning on getting together to watch the game. They love college football though and would never miss a game when a state game is played. That's the only reason I'm asking this question. Do you think playing on new years will hurt the viewership? I hate to say it but I think it will. I think more people outside of the south would watch it if it were a day game.
I guess in the end it doesn't really matter what non-fans watch the game. It matters what recruits watch the game. After some of the recent incidents, it would be nice to recruit kids staying in watching football on new years eve. Nothing wrong with kids partying but it's better when you don't have to worry. We could use a break.
