I want to know who Ferentz's PR people are?? That guy's name has gotten more run in the street than Heidi Fleiss and he has never really done anything that special. He's not a bad coach by any stretch, but he's certainly never come that close to winning anything major. He's never been to the Rose Bowl or any BCS game, yet he's highly thought of as a potential NFL coaching candidate. His teams always start out really hyped-up and crumble like a Ritz Cracker by about Week 6. Seriously, Pacman and Mike Vick need to hire Ferentz's people!!
Maybe Ferentz could thrive at a place like Tennessee, but I think I'd rather hold on to what we got if he is the alternative. And despite my faults with some of Fulmer's conservatism, he's a lot closer to a legend than a guy like hatvol would think. The numbers over time dictate that Fulmer is a High Tier 2 coach all-time. Tier one would include the Bryant's, Neyland's, Paterno's, Robinson's, Bowden's, Wilkinson's, Switzer's, Osborne's, and Spurrier's. But Phil stacks up pretty well when you put his numbers and longevity against the rest.
I'm not in the fire Phil camp by any means, but if this scenario arised, these are the candidates.
1. Jon Gruden
2. Bill Cowher
3. Tommy Tuberville (stick it to Lowder, get out of Bamer while he's still on top)
4. Steve Kragthorpe
5. Doug Marrone (Former UT asst, New Orleans OC, and Boots Donnelly's son-in-law)
6. Rich Rodriguez
7. Chris Peterson
8. Greg Schiano
9. Mike Singletary
10. Kirk Ferentz
