Is over optimism blinding us all from reality?

As the season approaches and I read the forums and the comments made by many Vol fans I can't help but wonder if we fans are refusing to accept reality due to our love of of the University of Tennessee. Examples are when players are here they are worshiped and said to be the best player to ever wear pads and the minute they leave or decommit they weren't worth having in the first place. The next example is with recruiting. So far we have 4 commits for 2011 none of which would probably even have gotten a second look in the past but now because Dooley recruited them they are all going to be studs. I personally am concerned about this program and the mediocrity we are all starting to accept with glee. Yes I support the program and every player in it including the coach but I just hope fans keep it real and call it like it is instead of looking like idiots and being happy about things because "THEY" said so. Who the hell is "They" anyway? "They" includes Hamilton, The Sports Animal, Dooley and etc. Have your own mind and call it like it is. Big orange fans are the best and we deserve to keep it real...

I'm done :)

Maybe we're reading two different forums?

I always get the vibe that there are a bunch of chicken littles on VN.

You talk about accepting mediocrity yet your avatar is bragging about winning the East in 07.

Hmmm

wasn't Randolph (our most recent commit) offered by the last staff?

Or we could all be depressed just because our four commits haven't been pimped out to recruiting services sufficiently enough to earn their highest ranks. 4 out of 25....

Posey is a good pickup, and he's on par or better than all of the previous staff's OL commits not named Juwaun James. Only questionable pick up is Power, but we definitely need someone who can contribute right away at TE next year.

Must be in the water up there. Not only is that mediocrity, the coach got rewarded for it. There is a flawed way of thinking up on the hill.

We should fire Dooley now so we can start over again. We can load up with Vince Lombardi, John Wooden, Gruden, Muschamp, Fulmer, Saban, Pop Warner, General Neyland and Jesse Jackson. Hell, Urban Meyer could even be the water boy.

I'm not sure about the Dooley hire, but you are saying all we should accept is excellence and yet in the 2007 season we went to the SEC championship over Florida (who beat us) and lost in one of the weakest years for the SEC in a few years. How was that "excellence" and how was the program in a good state then?

From 2007 to 2010 a TON of damage has been done. No valid comparison between then and now...

What? The fact that things have changed doesn't alter the fact that celebrating divisional championships is darn near the definition of accepting mediocrity.

Also, Posey and Randolph would have gotten plenty of looks by previous staffs...Randolph was offered by the last staff.

There's an all-encompassing word that I've heard used for this exact phenomena: Volsheimers.

I'll accept an SEC championship as success. National Championships are nice but I accept reality in the fact that those don't come along very often. I am REALLY getting tired of losing to Florida and Bama though that's for sure. I don't like Tennessee being considered 3rd or worse best in its own division. Tennessee is better than that...at least we WERE better than that. I just hope Dooley surprises people including myself. I'm not anti Dooley, but I am very skeptical up to this point.
