Is Lucas Taylor our next Meachem???

The biggest difference between Meachem and Taylor is strength. Meachem was a lot stronger than he looked. He could beat the press (except Arkansas) and simply bull his way through arm tackles (Cal).

Taylor hasn't shown that yet

Taylor is quick and elusive (which helps him to get open) but he does not have elite straight line speed to run past defenders. But, he can make them miss.

And, no the best recievers are not on the bench. Not even close. The best recievers and Taylor and Rogers. The third best reciever might be on the bench because Briscoe is not the answer at that spot. Taylor and Rogers are not going anywhere in terms of starting. We might see a younger guy playing at the 3rd WR spot soon though (maybe Jones once he is completely healthy).

I predict he will be a solid D1 receiver. It appears he and Rogers both gettin r dun. Neither is Meachemesque.
As it is, Rogers is the best route runner, maybe not the fastet, but he is turning into Ainge's go to guy.

Okay, I know he is not as big or strong as Meachem, but he seems to be coming around and making big plays. He hasn't scored a TD yet but is averaging over 100 yds/game. Can he keep it up or has he just taken advantage against bad defenses? We don't seem to have anyone else right now that is stepping up as the number one receiver so why not Taylor. Let me know what you all think about his abilities and his chances

Austin Rogers is the no. 1 reciever...at least in the eyes of Trooper Taylor. Taylor was quoted last week as saying Rogers was the No. 1 receiver.

Taylor is pretty good and will make some plays, but he doesn't have the dynamics to be a "meachem"

I am impressed with both Rogers and Taylor...but NO...they are no where near RM...lets hope they both stay healthy because I dont know of who is going to step up and replace their productivity at the moment

The only problem that I have with Rogers is his speed. He looks terribly slow out there and seems to be a possession type receiver. I would guess that his 40 time would be no faster than a 4.6

Let me put this in the form of a question. Later this year, or next year even, if you are Fulmer and you want to make the secondaries you face play back on their heels will you continue to play the guy who just goes out and catches the ball everytime and then gets tackled, or will you play the guy who can take a quick hitch or a quick slant all the way with their shear speed and atheletic ability? Wouldn't you rather have a guy on the field that can blaze past the corner and make those deep 40-60 yard catches downfield? Of course you would.

I am really proud of Lucas Taylor, I do think that he is someone who can help you win a game. I think that Austin Rogers is the type of guy you bring in on third downs and such. I think that we really need a guy with elite speed on the other end; starting. Right now our youngsters are not ready, but when they are don't think that for one minute they won't be starting. Our coaches are not morons (although some may have a different oppinion than me) and they will play the guys that give them the best chance to win. Speedy, dynamic receivers give you the best chance to win.
