I found it interesting that Eli is stating that if he is drafted by the Chargers he will sit out the year. I find that a little out of character for a "Manning". I am sure he is looking out for his best interest but I wonder if he would actually follow through?

If I were the Chargers, I WOULD draft his butt and make him miss a year. He ain't Peyton.

I have no doubt that Eli will follow through now that the Chargers have picked him. What the Chargers did by going public was a no class move by a crappy organization that has had 4 winning seasons in the last 20. After seeing them screw the pooch on Ryan Leaf, pass on Michael Vick and fail to develop Drew Brees, I think they've proven that they have no clue when it comes to QBs. How can you blame Manning for not wanting to be a part of that?

...it ain't like the Mannings need the money.

That's true that Eli can definitely afford to sit out a year if that is what he chooses to do. I just wonder if he will follow through with it.

I am just not sure how I feel about players picking where they will go and won't go.

Guess we will never know what he would have done. He has been traded to the Giants for Phillip Rivers and several draft picks.

It "ain't" like Eli is the king of football either. Do you think Peyton would have CHOSEN the Colts, given the fact that they were pretty crappy then? The draft is about TEAMS picking players, who are PRIVILEGED to be allowed to play, not the players picking the team they want. Peyton took what he was offered and Indianapolis (and he I'm sure) is glad he did. Thanks to Eli, from now on we can look forward to a draft that has every little prima donna taking his ball and going home if he doesn't get things his way. Football players are getting as bad as baseball players. Eli should have HAD to miss a year and then he would have realized that just being a Manning isn't enough. So what if there were "reasons" for his not wanting to play for a crappy team. He should have payed his dues just like everybody else.

Except Maurice Clarett.

When you are about to be the #1 pick and you know it, for that moment you ARE the "King of Football". How can you fault a guy for being fortunate enough to have the leverage to choose where he lives and works? It's not like Eli is the first guy to hold out or manipulate the top of the draft.

..and it's not like the Chargers were the victim here. They ended up with Phillip Rivers and a 1st and 5th round picks. They never had any intention of having Eli play a down for them anyway. It's all just business.

It is all just business......unfortunately. I know that Bo Jackson and John Elway did the same thing. I still just don't think it's good for the NFL, but it worked out for Eli today and I am sure it won't be the last time it happens. :dunno:

Thank you, GA!!!! That's what I have been saying all day and I finally have someone to agree with me!!! If you are #1 and everyone wants you, you have a little control!! B)

I don't blame Archie one bit with the crap he went through in New Orleans. I wouldn't want my son playing for a coach who IMO is far from good.
