Is it safe to say that anything less than 10 win season is a failure?

I am as realistic as anyone in this world and I completely understand that in the SEC 10 win seasons are so hard to come by. But with the money we are shelling out to this coaching staff and the hype that is surrounding anything short of this will be considered by most a complete failure. My heart goes out to these guys because every message board and post seems to think that they are the second coming and we are automatically the cream of the crop once again. I just hope we support our new staff through thich and thin and don't call for their heads after reality sets in!

It's hard to ask for a 10 win season a coach's first year, and I think that most understand that. 2 years is when my expectations will go up.

Nobody expects a national title run immediately following a losing season.

Yeah I would say Year 3 is about the right time to demand a 10 win season. After about 2 seasons you have enough time for your players that you recruit to come around and know your system. Year 3 should be the time we ask for 10 wins. Anything before then is unrealistic. Next year, I think we should be happy with 8 wins or more.

I don't agree with that, we were 5-7 this year. Some of the older guys will be looking at a 3rd OC in 3 years. Also looking at a new defensive scheme, and all new coaches. I don't care how good the coaches are I still expect next year to be a struggle. If we get 7 wins I'll be content, because that's progress. If we get 10 wins I'll be calling me someone in Knoxville to come bail my butt out of jail because I'll be running up and down the strip butt naked painted orange... possibly with Bruce Pearl and Coach YawYaw.

That is what they thought up in Michigan before the start of the 08 season...........

Great coaches+great talent=Great season(12-0 or 11-1)
Great coaches+average talent=Better than average season(9-3 to 8-4)
Great coaches+mediocre talent=Less than average season(6-6 to 4-8)
Average coaches+average talent=Average season(7-5 to 6-6)

(Hopefully)

I think even the lunatic fringe will be OK as long as we win 7 or 8 games and are competitive in the others.

How many Sierra Nevadas did you have today?:)

I believe you are at least one step up more than is realistic. JMO

Boddingtons today instead of SN

Looking at the schedule and what's coming back I firmly believe 9 wins should be the bar and I personally believe we can get 10, but I'm not gonna go off the deep end if we end up with 7 or 8

This is the year to do it...

Historically it's the weakest I can remember.

We could be getting UGA, UF, and Bama with an unproven new QB as well.

I think 9 is a realistic possibility. And I am never one to prognosticate on wins...too many variables.

This coming year is a good year to catch some rivals breaking in a new QB, however we are breaking in a new staff. I think seven to eight with a bowl is resonable. However, even if we dont reach this I hope people give CLK time to prove what he can do.

Take a position, and hold it. What are you saying? That a 10 win season is unrealistic? Anything less is a failure? Support the staff regardless?

For me, Kiffin gets 4 years. He won't get the recruiting class he wants this year. His first actual "recruiting class" will be the class of 2010. So, I'm giving him through the 2012 season. His recruits will be juniors by then, and that's when we'll know if Lane Kiffin is the real deal.

Go Vols.
