Will be the next head coach at the University of Tennessee? Assuming he does a good job and if we were to win a conference championship or BCS title within the next few years I think Phil would hand the reigns over to him. I know we love to promote from within and this is just something I see Hamilton and Fulmer going for if the cards fall in the right place. Thoughts?

Let's play this season out and go from there.

if it's another 4-5 yrs no it's not safe to assume that, and who knows, we might not want him

Clawson has only been an employee for a couple of months. Let's not discuss him becoming the CEO until after his first performance review.

i think he has a chance, if he proves he can handle biz in the SEC. depends on whether Fulmer sticks to his "one more title," declaration.

I think to keep pace with the other big time universities UT would have to bring in someone who carries some weight just on name alone.

But who know's Clawson maybe that type of guy in 2-3 years.

I said like two days after they hired him to Mark my words that CDC will be the Next Head Coach at UT.

Write it down, it will be so!

I still think he has a lot to prove before he can be considered a good OC much less a head coach.

It all depends on how long CPF stays, if it is more than a couple years, Clawson will be promoted.

In all reality he hasn't proven anything yet... With that said, however, you know Hamilton and Fulmer both had it in the back of their minds that this is the guy that COULD possibly be the heir apparent.. He has head coaching experience before, and I disagree with the fact that his name isn't "big" enough to be an SEC coach.... We only have to look at our bball program to see the flaws in that logic...

I will take a different stance, however, and say that if Fulmer DOES stay for 4-5 years then that will be better for Clawson b/c he will have enough experience in the SEC... However, if Fulmer leaves or gets fired in the next year or two (which I don't think he will) then Clawson might be searching elsewhere..

If Fulmer gets fired, Clawson will not be a candidate to replace him.

Fair enough, but I will also say that Fulmer will NOT get fired... He may be asked to resign, in which case Clawson will still get an interview definitely...

phil is wanting to get his record wins and pass gen. neyland. if clawson and his buddies he brought like the UT that much are at home and are successful and can be patient and money dont lure them away. (if he can do like bruce pearl) then yes he will heir the thrown.

it is way too early to make any prediction. i wouldnt make the decision after a year unless we finish top 3 in country anyways. if he can come in and we can be top 5 for the next couple of years then let him and his crew work their magic and fulmer gets his wins he wants then by all means let them have it. everyone would be happy. fans would be confident, clawson has his experience in the sec and i would be for it. i like his staff and their energy so far thats what coach troop did for us and now instead of one guy we have 3-4 like that. it makes a big difference with 20 yr olds and how they play and handle the constructive critism.

Right, it has nothing to do with the fact that he has been affiliated with UT for more than 2/3 of his life.... Loyalty (or maybe even love is appropriate here) means nothing....

Of course he is wanting to pass Gen. Neyland, but that is not the reason why he is staying at UT... The man loves his job and is a competitor.. At least give him that..

If Clawson does well it will be because CPF......if he fails it will be because of CDC.....so no he will not be the next HC.
