Is it just me or is LSU being grossly over-rated?

Now first let me say that Nick Saban has done a HELL of a job with that program but I just don't see where this Top 5 ranking comes from.

Did people not see Marcus Randall in 2002? He was horrible and he reminds me of Jason C. at Auburn because his stats are not terrible but his play in clutch situations is nearly awful.

LSU fans that I know want me to believe that Randall has improved and such but his Spring game didn't show any improvment.

Their WR department lost its best 2 WR's....and Henderson/Clayton are what made Green go...remember that Skyler Green is the same player who still to this day has extreme catching problems...hell, I believe he was "almost" benched before the first UGA/LSU game due to dropping so much before hand. And they want me to believe they will be good here due to some fast Rivals.com 5-Star WR's? Anybody want to go down the list of failed 5-Star WR's yearly?

Experience matters and their WR's have speed like many SEC schools...but no experience and a #1 WR whose hands are about as reliable and Bush's Tax Cut.

On the defensive side, I am sure they will be fine but you don't lose the SEC Defensive POY and a NFL 2nd round pick (right? 2nd I think) and not lose a little step here or there....there is a reason why Spears and company were so good and its because Lavalais and Hill were causing chaos. I am sure Saban has talent there but to their level? Hardly right now

In the secondary they are good but losing Gay and Hunt will hurt them and I dont care about much of a product Hunt was. Gay and Hunt were two INCREDIBLE and UNDER-RATED players. See why LSU lost to UF....was Hunt playing? Nope.

I could go on and on.....LSU also lost their best punter in years

LSU will go 8-3. Mark and Learn It.

@ Auburn, @ UGA, @ UF = 2 losses at least, IMO...hell....they may just have 1 if they are lucky

THEN

Alabama at home = 1 home win vs. them since 1969
Ole Miss at home = 3-4 vs. OM the last 7 years
@Arkansas = Nutt has never lost in the stadium they are playing at

8-3 and I am banking on it.

They are the defending National Champs. It happens every year with the defending champs.

LSU is not the powerhouse they were. And let's face it, they were not exactly tearing everyone apart last year. A mediocre Florida beat 'em, and Georgia with an inexperienced line took them to the wire at LSU. No repeat this year. If anything GA will get revenge against them.

Good points on both posts.

I am not saying UT is a great powerhouse but neither is LSU

It bugs me to continue to see their praise when it's total unproven, IMO with so much to replace.

You are correct about that. I'm just saying that the main reason they are all on LSU's jock is because they won it last year. They do the same thing with all the defending champs.

I agree on LSU being over-rated.But they did win it all last year so let them suck it up we won`t have to hear it for long. But I really don`t think Georgia`s going to hold up to the hype either. If someone steps in and cleans their clock early on. I don`t believe they will be able to regroup this season.

UGA lost to LSU early and still won the East last year so I am not sure about them falling off

And for the record, they did win the East. I know it pisses me family off when I say it but UT fans would be saying the same damn thing had we gotten to Atlanta and UGA/UF tied us....I know it's unfair that they got there but lets look at it subjectivly, IMO and from the other side.

Either way, we still have more of everything then UGA

You are right about that.

I have always had the opinion that the defending national champion should start the next season as # 1. They are still # 1 until somebody beats them... on the field not in the polls. Same reason I would like to see a playoff.... and get rid of this BCS :bs:

Wouldn't we all. I don't think we'll see it anytime soon though.

Amen!!! The rankings are so biased it's pathetic, teams are ranked high purely on past performances( including us). Make every team join a conference and every conference have a championship game, the winners from each conference goes to a playoff... the big bowls can be hosts and rotate around just like they do now and the minor bowls can host the conference champ games... everybody wins, a champ is decided on the field and the bowls still make alot of money. The BCS depends so much on the polls now that we might as well not have it. (just my :twocents: )

Yea, they did win it all last year but I still dont like HOW!!!! Anytime anyone down here throws "National Champs" in my face I am sure to say "Co-National Champs"!!!!!!!!

I dont think they will be as strong as last year..........good...........but not as strong. I will go with Freak and say 2 losses. (fingers crossed for more!!) :finger:

I think that the conferences definately have to still retain control over their championship games for this (playoff) to become a reality. However, the conference champions get automatically qualified for the playoff. Throw in a few at-large bids and go. If you go 16 teams, use the 1st 2 rounds to play at the top seeded teams' home stadiums.... incentives for finishing ranked as high as possible.... even use the polls or BCS ranking like the RPI in basketball to help seed the teams. Use the major (BCS) bowls to play the final 4 and championship game.

The remaining minor bowls can be used to host the teams that don't make the playoffs. Currently, there will be 4 BCS bowls hosting 10 teams (1 bowl plays twice). Adding 6 more teams to the mix does not greatly affect the pool from which the minor bowls currently choose. Think of it like the NCAA basketball tournament and NIT tournament. BTW - over 50 teams made bowls last season. There were at least 6 or more that did not make bowls that should have.

I'd be inclined to agree we were overrated in the preseason rankings. But I don't think that's the case right now. If you think we're overrated, then you HAVE to believe that Miami is overrated. 2 losses to unranked North Carolina and Clemson, one of which at home, late in the season, and they're #10 in the BCS.

Keep in mind that our only two losses came to top 5 teams at that time, at their own stadiums. Granted, some of our wins haven't been pretty, (i.e. Vandy, Ole Miss, OSU), but neither have some of USC's (i.e. Cal, Stanford, OSU). Almost any ranked team has close calls against supposed creampuffs.

Just defending my team, fellas.

Miami is defiinitely overrated.

Miami is the most grossly overrated team in all of college ball, hands down

I'm still bummed out the Beavers couldn't pull it out against the Tigers in Lousiana earlier this year :( so close

Yeah... USC has had some close calls. Auburn is really the only team that hasn't. I still believe USC deserves their #1 ranking, but Auburn should be #2.

To some extent, I feel bad for winning that game. We drastically underestimated them, and that was a crappy way to lose.
