Is it deja vu from 2012

Butch isn't Dooley, but the concerns going into 2017 are unquestionably warranted.

Best statement in the thread in my opinion.

I don't think everyone is ready to run to their garage (or shed) to grab pitchforks, but the potential for the program to slip back into mediocrity is more prevalent today than it was this time last year.

And I assumed when I created the thread that I was addressing adults with at least intermediate reading comprehension skills. I guess we were both wrong.

"Adults" "reading comprehension"...breaking new ground.

I remember the thread when some on here sincerely believed Michigan was in talks with Butch.

Don't forget, UT narrowly snatched Jones away from CO at the 11th hour (by tripling his annual salary).

Who had a better 2016 season, UT or CO?

Then UT narrowly (supposedly) snatched Jones away from MI by bumping him to over $4mil.

Who had a better 2016 season, UT or MI?

I think I see a pattern here.

1) Angry fan base after a loss to an opponent we historically dominate.

2)Season opening game in Atlanta against an ACC opponent

3)Breaking in a new coordinator with little experience.

4) Star WR in trouble for pot in the offseason.
5) Recruiting class in the teens not warmly received by elements of the fan base.
6) New secondary coach
I know the situations aren't exactly the same, but it definitely feels like there are some disturbing similarities.

Both seasons ended 5-7, neither coach has beaten Florida or Georgia, neither coach has won a bowl game. Dang, I didn't realize how much Dooley and Butch had in common.

Too bad we can't get a bunch of fans on here to take over the team, since they obviously know so much more than any of the coaches.

This argument is so dumb and overused. I think the fans, many of whom have been watching Tennessee football for 20-30+ years are qualified enough to see if a team under performs. When it happens more than occasionally, then you can begin to deduce that player development and/or adequate game day coaching is lacking. No one criticizing butch is on here saying 'hey make me the head coach I know exactly what we need!' Hate to make a political reference, but much like Obamacare, we don't necessarily know what would be better in place of it but we know it sucks and isn't the answer.

I agree. I'm no mechanic but I know when I see smoke coming from under the hood it isn't good.

Yes there are problems but some on here aren't the mechanics to diagnose them that they think they are.

Butch just said he had to turn away more players than he's ever had to do in recruiting this year, so do you trust Butch Jones or is he just a spin master?

You call Butch the Spin Master. A lot of people on this board say they are telling it like it is. Id say that the people on this borders are Spin Masters themselves but in a negative light

Coming off back to back 9 win seasons feels nothing like coming off back to losing seasons...
