Is Hunter intentionally avoiding hits by going down?

He never really gets any yards after the catch...is he protecting the goods? That would be pretty selfish.

I've been talking with some of my friends about this.

He looks like he's honestly scared of taking a hit, especially after the injury he sustained last year.

We must not be watching the same player??? He is almost always tryin to get more yardage.. But on the other hand I know it's in the back of his mind about last year.

He didn't get hit last year when he was injured. Just came down wrong.

at some point it's smart for a player to just get to the ground. I hate his backtracking more than going down

He has hit the ground an awful lot. He did it a couple of times today when he easily could've picked up 3-5 more yards. Someone mentioned that Marvin Harrison did this a lot too and that he turned out well. I wouldn't exactly put those two in the same category but at least Justin didn't run backwards 7 yards after he caught it.

he has a kid got to get to the pro's without injury losing millions in the process as his draft stock drops:banghead2::banghead2:

I saw one play where it looked like he went down before contact, but he may have slipped.

Hunter isn't a physical receiver.... its very common for a receiver like him to go down early to avoid contact because that stuff takes a toll on their bodies over the course of a season. Why risk it to get injured on something stupid to gain maybe 1 more yard?

After the season we've had and seeing Lattimore today.. I bet he's going to be hitting the turf even quicker

The only thing I can really say in his defense is that it absolutely does take longer than a year to get back to your normal 100 percent from an injury like he suffered. Even when you get back to 'full health' in terms of being uninjured, able to play, and declared back by your ortho. it takes a long time to get back to where you were before the injury and sometimes even with successful surgeries you never get all the way back.

It does seem to me that he plays scared but he may not look like the Hunter of old simply because he's not back to where he was yet -- not completely but recovered enough to make us wonder why he's not the old Hunter. And when you consider how amazing he played prior to injury and how he looks now (still a great receiver but not even close to where he was) it could just be that what we're seeing is a 90-95% return rather than a 100% return.

This. Players in the pros do it all the time. It was actually taught by my receivers coach. There's no sense in taking a kill shot and being out of the game in order to get another yard. It's the same principle of an option QB that is instructed to "give with the pitch."

There were several times today that I found myself saying that I really wished he would fight for some extra yards.

There's no wonder why CP is getting so much more love. He's had plenty of drops this year too, but you can tell that he's doing everything he can to help the team.

There was 1 today that wasn't avoiding any kind of hit. He felt a hand on his shoulder from a trailing defender and he dove. You could tell he wasn't dragged down either because he fell away from the defender.

I'll keep saying this til I'm blue in the face: he's a good guy and talented player, but he needs to be benched. We saw what Vincent Dallas can do when given the chance. Play him more, play ZR, play CP, play Rivera, but don't waste time and plays on Hunter.
