Did John Gruden do anything to win a superbowl or just inherit Tonys team. Do you think he is a good coach?

I think he's good. The Tampa Two ... was he responsible for that version of the cover 2?

Pretty sure that "Tampa 2" coverage predates Gruden by several years.

Just looked it up . . . Tampa 2 is a Monte Kiffin creation. He's been on the Bucs' staff for 11 years.

Actually, the Tampa 2 was invented by Tony Dungy, Monte Kiffin, and Lovie Smith. See the next paragraph below. The Tampa 2 was around LONG before Gruden arrived in Tampa. Gruden took the team that was already in Tampa Bay (which was carried by its defense), added Keyshawn Johnson and Brad Johnson, and called a slightly less conservative game plan. He's not a great coach. He arrived in a great position. Tony Dungy could have eventually won a Super Bowl in Tampa Bay too if he had ever got off his a$$ and hired a good offensive coordinator.

From Wikipedia:

"The Tampa 2 is an American football defensive strategy popularized by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers National Football League (NFL) team in the 1990s-early 2000s. It was designed by then-head coach Tony Dungy, defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, and then-linebackers coach Lovie Smith.

After Dungy became head coach of the Indianapolis Colts and Smith became head coach to the Chicago Bears, they installed the Tampa 2 in their respective teams. During the 2005 NFL season, The Buccaneers, still under defensive coordinator Kiffin, ranked first in the league in total yards allowed, Smith's Bears ranked number two, and Dungy's Colts ranked eleventh. In the 2006-2007 season, the Buffalo Bills, Minnesota Vikings, Kansas City Chiefs, and Detroit Lions will adopt the defense."

Gruden built the Raiders up to be a Super Bowl team, and he won it with another team, against his Raiders coincidentally. That's pretty good.

So you're giving Gruden credit for both Super Bowl teams in the same season? Hell, I think he deserves more credit for the Raiders that season than he deserves for the success of the Bucs, but even the Raiders' offense was far more productive that season than they were the previous year when Gruden was calling the shots.

Personally, I think Gruden is an slightly above-average coach but nothing more.

Nah, I was just saying why I thought he was pretty good. He built one team and got one over the hump.

Wasn't Callahan the offensive coordinator for Gruden? Or does/did Gruden call the plays?

From what I understand, Callahan pretty much just kept using Gruden's gameplan after he left. He was not even creative enough to change it up when they played Gruden's team in the Super Bowl. The result was a 47 turnover performance by the Raiders. Also, look how quickly the Raiders dropped after Gruden left. One of the best to the clear cut worst team.

the Raiders suck because the owner is a walking zombie.
Agreed. Al Davis has to give up ownership of the Raiders if they have any shot of returning to prominence.

As for Gruden, he's alright. I think it's pretty generally accepted that Dungy was mostly responsible for putting that Super Bowl team together.
