Is Fulmer on the Hotseat? - ESPN First Take.

What's with the ESPN hate? I saw Pat Forde's report on First Take, and he didn't say anything incorrect.

It's starting to hit the national press because a guy with an earned national championship under his belt and (formerly) all the job security in the world, a guy synonymous with UT, nicked "dean of coaches in the SEC" is now on the hot seat.

Pat Forde simply stated that Cal and Florida crushed us, and that it is now evident to all (not just the negavols) that we are of lesser status in the SEC to as many as five other programs. A program that used to always be a threat to win the SEC is now just another tough game to those who are in it to win it.

With everything going down the way it has it hurts me to think that we still have to face a good Bama, Heisman RB at Arkansas, a Kentucky team on the upswing, Georgia, and Sprrier at USC so where do yall put us after Nov 17?
Right now that would put us in very bad shape the way we are playing. We might could split them if we start playing better. But we have to find some answers quick or fulmer may lose the team.

No if there is a buy out they will all go.Cutcliffe may get teased and they will interview him.But he would be a longshot for the job.

Fulmer had reason to seethe. For the second time in three games the Vols gave up an early punt return that put them in a hole. For the second time in three games Fulmer lamented afterward, "We were supposed to kick it out of bounds."

I find it disheartening that this is CPF's way of fixing our horrible special teams coverage. Just kick it out of bounds....

I firgured they would say more this morning on ESPN.

What I don't get is all the hate Lloyd Carr is getting when he won an outright Big 10 Title in 2003, and he has been to the Rose Bowl 3 times in the last few years.

Yet the Media plays Carr's hotseat to be on fire, and Fulmers is just getting a little heated.

here's the difference:

most consider the SEC to be much tougher than the Big 10, thus much harder to win the Conf. title.

the Big 10 has no title game, so no way to "lose" the title.

See his recorda against OSU since JT's arrival in Columbus.

See OSU playing for and winning National TItles since JT's arrival in Columbus.

See LC's record in bowl games the last 8 or so years.

and he lost to a d-1aa team at home.

basically, CPF gets a bit of a pass because of the level of play in the SEC, the level of coaching in the SEC and difficulty of winning the SEC with a tough conf and then a title game to boot. and people just don't look at the big 10 conf. title as that big of a deal since you can have co champions etc...that and the big 10 is basically comprised of 2 teams most years, with the occaisional Wisconsin or Penn St throwing their hat in the ring.

Here's the other difference: Michigan is a lot more relevant nationally than Tennessee.
only because of the conf. they play in. like i said, it's one thing to win the Big 10 or have a ten win season in the big ten, it's another in this day's SEC.

and that's why the bowl losses are a real sticking point for Mich. faithful.

Doesnt anyone agree that somtimes is not coaches fault? They can call the plays, but not his fault if they dont get it done.

We have needed a coach for a long time probably since 2002, I'm just glad everyone is starting to see what I've been saying since then. (fire Fulmer), I also agree we need to go get a big name coach my only concern with that is we will probably have to spend bama money to get that coach since the envelope was pushed so far out by bama. With what we're spending on thompson boling, neyland, basketball practice facilities, etc I don't know if we have that kind of money or not.

yes. and during the 05 season, i defended the coaches, because what i saw that season was a team that simply didn't execute. we killed ourselves with mistakes, turnovers, penalties, dropped balls etc, etc, etc....

the 05 season for all intents and purposes, i felt there wasn't a coach in America that could have helped that team.

the difference i see now is a team that has no direction or leadership. when i hear some of the coaches' comments after this last game, it's just apparent to me that this particular group can't get it done.

this TN team was NOT prepared for FL. and that's an issue. the special teams have been awful. and that's an issue. as well as the offense has played at times, there still at times seems to be no real "master plan" as to how we are going to reach our goal from a game plannning or play calling standpoint.

this year, the difference to me is the coaches. we have gone in to every game this year attempting to do the same thing scheme wise, to no avail. at this point, you have to ask the quesiton...why?

the answer to a) is that we lost both games in similar fashion to how we lost most big games the last few years. combine that with a defense that has gotten worse, and now you get what you get. and as for b), i don't think there's any question that LSU, FL and GA are currently in better shape, as it relates to the landscape of the SEC, than TN and it is becoming very evident that SC and Bama are on the rise.

I disagree. I sense a lot of pressure on CMR going 0-5 against his SEC east peers over the past year. His offensive coordinator is getting blasted on the message boards and in the media. While not in as much trouble as CPF, the loser of the TN-GA game will be feeling the pressure.

i agree with that, and i've been less enchanted with CMR of late as well. i was simply speaking in terms of GA over the last 6 years compared to TN over the last 6 years.

and you're right...i think this year for GA, you have to look at the TN game as expecting to win it. lose it and then you really do have to ask some questons about CMR.

Obviously it's because of their weak conference, but they've played in four BCS bowls since Tennessee last played in one. They've been a lot more nationally relevant than we have this decade.

Plus it's just a matter of demographics, too. A lot more people live in Michigan than in Tenenssee; they have a lot more fans around the country than we do. Carr's situation has probably gotten a lot more play than Fulmer's simply because more people around the country care about it.
