The FYI of the morning.

I'm not asking the question, as it is obvious.

But considering the National Media hasn't had much to say about Fulmer, I thought it would be interesting to see how the media plays it.

If YOU are wondering...it will be asked on ESPN's First take, 10am.

i think John Adams hit the nail on the head with this question. it's not the matter of losing to FL or to Cal.

it's more to do with a) how they lost to each and b) the current status of this program in the current landscape of the SEC.

the answer to a) is that we lost both games in similar fashion to how we lost most big games the last few years. combine that with a defense that has gotten worse, and now you get what you get. and as for b), i don't think there's any question that LSU, FL and GA are currently in better shape, as it relates to the landscape of the SEC, than TN and it is becoming very evident that SC and Bama are on the rise.

where does that leave TN? looking up at at least 5 teams in the SEC. and that is the true crime here. we've lost games before, and we'll lose games again. but to lose, and continue to lose, to a team like FL, it's just apparent that the gap is much wider than the most devoted Fulmer fan ever thought it was.

jakez4ut you are right. it is what that game confirms about the future not necessarily losing to florida. we have done so in the past and made something out of it to our advantage. what makes many upset is the florida game was lost so similarly to the cal game that it makes our coaching staff look foolish for not making the adjustments and personnel changes. ESPN certainly can get the attention of hamilton quicker than VolNation.

Where are all the Fulmer homers that were bashing some of us for wanting a new coach two weeks ago? It's not being negative to want the most out of this team. Fulmer is not a volunteer (no pun intended) rather he gets paid enough for us to be critical of his performance.

You are correct about the support. Most of my friends and myself were ardent Fulmer supporters. That all changed on Saturday. I came into work hoping the guys would not think to bad of me for changing my position however they feel the same way I do. It is unreal how much is going against Fulmer now. I am not proud of this but getting a replacement has become a reality now.

Yeah it has become a HUGE reality. What will be worse is if we continue to "hire from within" as usual. WHen a change is finally made, it needs to be a MAJOR change with a solid hire. Promoting Cutcliff to HC is not a major change.

We need a groundbreaking replacement that will make headlines like Saban at BAMA, Weiss at ND, SPurrier at USC, Meyer at UF, you get my point. This is the new era of the SEC and college football and keeping pace with that new era will require a new coaching style and complete make over at Tennessee.

My opinion on Fulmer finally swayed over this weekend. I had said after everyone freaked out after the Cal game that we should at least let them play more than one game this year before we decide it's time for him to go. Then came the worst beatdown I have ever seen a Tennessee team get. We continue to have the same problems, and it's seems the coaching staff either doesn't recognize them, or doesn't know how to fix them, so I think it's time to get someone who will.

I viewed this as a make or break for Fulmer with 9 solid wins as the expectation given the overall talent level on the team.

As stated earlier in this thread, the way we've lost is more telling than the losses.

PF should announce his retirement.

I agree im tired of this mediocrity... the only coach i hope is still in Knoxville after this season is Cutcliff and that is just as OC

For us to be such a major football school the talent level Fulmer has brought in of late is either not gettin coached to its potential or just seriously lacking

What has happened this season to make you want to keep Cut? He is responsible for the offense you know. No way a new coach keeps him on staff

Whatever the University decides to do is fine with me. I am not a student, player, coach, etc. I am just a fan. If they change though I agree that it's needs to be a whole new house approach and it better be big time if UT wants to keep up. I was really hoping Phil could make it until Peyton retired so it would be a smooth transition.
