The events of the last ten years seems to make the a valid question to me. I keep seeing rumors that the administration is not as supportive as it once was, and we are certainly losing our standing in the SEC.

If so, let's just cancel the unneeded $300 million Neyland upgrades, and consider a conference where we can be competitive in our new status.

no. too much money. there's just not been anyone over there in more than a decade that knows enough about anything football related to make it what it could be.

I don’t see the renovations being funded unless The Haslams do it by themselves

I think hiring non-Tennesseans and yankee admin personnel has changed the emphasis. I think they detest football because it's the epitomy of masculinity and liberals hate this.

How an this whole affair and the crap handling of it be reconciled with any other explanation? Then again, from the looks of this and the idiots running it, it looks more like its being flat out destroyed.

you answered your question in the next line.

we have puppets and people that aren't very good at their jobs in charge.

there's too much money involved in our football program for them to deemphasize it.

they're just very bad at running it, and they all report to a single puppet master, that's as inept as they are.

call it systemic.

I think it's being choked out of existence due to a decade of gutless leadership and incompetency.

No way anyone in their right mind in Knoxville doesn't want the cash cow to be fat and healthy.

yeah, not only the revenue it means to the athletic department and school, the local economy lives and breathes off of it.

there's zero sense in deemphasizing football....on many levels.

they just suck at it.

With the signoffs on the last several coaching hires, the insistence on "blue light special" salaries, and the stated goals of significantly improving academics at UT, it is hard to think that the UT admin is serious anymore. If the things you mention really mattered, from the president's office on down, the main players should be on board with big time football, OR NOT BE HIRED.

i see no evidence that they are serious about winning. It's is more like getting someone who can win 8 games every once in a while to keep us happy. If they can raise $340m for renovations then they can afford to get a big time coach. This is all about POWER. I firmly believe that the admin thinks the UT fans are stupid and will accept just about anyone as coach. I guess they are correct as we have accepted mediocrity in pretty much all the sports.

the program doesn't have to be elite to make money. does that mean they're deemphasizing it? doubt it.

but they're certainly not "all in" on making it a championship caliber program. and haven't been in very long time.

if that's how we're intending it, then yeah, i agree with that. they definitely don't care about it being good.

So these administration idiots want to spend $300 million renovating the stadium yet they make a complete clusterf**k of hiring the next coach.

Priceless.

Why look for malicious intent when stupidity is the most common answer?

Football is a business for Tennessee. It's about bottom line not winning. As long as we continue to make them the second most profitable program, they'll continue to put the same product on the field. Piss on this administration, not one damn dime from me for donations, tickets, apparel. Anyone that supports this financially needs to not complain from this point forward, we've seen what this university's leadership is about.

I really think the current iteration of the administration would have to undergo major improvement to suck.

I'm not sure what's 6 steps below sucking but that's where DiPietro, Currie, and Davenport are at.

And frankly, Fulmer and Manning aren't looking too great either. Thought they were supoosed to lend some football credibility to the proceedings.

The football experience is still emphasized to prospective students in their marketing efforts. Heck, the acceptance letters open up to play Rocky Top. I know it seems intentional because their efforts are so effectively destroying the football program, but it is just staggering incompetence. I don't think they could do more damage even if they were trying to.
