Is DiPietro maybe the problem?

The decision makers have been spending the last 20 years leading us from a championship level program to competing for last in the SEC
Haven't really been making good decisions have they. Kind of like biting the hand that feeds you.

Boosters have always had a lot of influence in athletics. that has been the case as long as I have followed things up there. we are not different in that regard than any other program..

Hamilton created a lot of the academic / athletic problems

1000% correct but many just choose to create fictional issues to blame instead of where it truly lies and that is at the top.

If you think politics has nothing to do with sports then you're just plain D U M B!

Fact...Liberals have total control over our education system from K to 12 and it's even worse in college.

Fact...Liberals don't really care about sports and they mostly hate the brutal, barbaric sport of football.

Fact...The main reasons that Liberals put up with NFL is because they now control the players Union and 1/2 the owners which is why our flag, anthem, troops and country are being spit on and the Liberals make $$$$$ from the NFL.

Fact...The TOP priority at Tennessee is to make us a top research college because the Liberals that control UT know they can get many Millions more $$$$ in research grants than they can get from all sports combined.

Fact...Fulmer was put into his current position for only 2 reasons because he loves Tennessee so much and he's a good negotiator/salesman...

1st and foremost, To raise more $$$$$ for UT because the Liberals never saw a way to get more $$$$ that they didn't love.

2nd, to attempt to placate and make us football fans believe that we have some solid hope that the BOT and Admin will do what it takes to make our footVol Team a solid top 10 contender again and keep that $$$$ rolling in.

For the past 10 years the BOT and Admin have proven, beyond any doubt, that as long as we fans keep that glimmer of hope of getting back to a SEC Championship or even ranked in the top 15 to 25 that we'll keep buying tickets and merchandise and the $$$ will keep rolling in for them.

This is our reality unfortunately.

I'm as addicted as anyone and I always find ways to keep my hopes up despite knowing these things because I love football and my beloved Vols.

I'll always bleed Tennessee Orange and that love will never die and that makes me a small part of the problem too.

Even knowing that I'm being used by the powers that be I'm hooked because of my Orange blood and loving Tennessee so much.

I'd bet that Fulmer and Peyton know it too but they love Tennessee just like me and so many of the rest of us but they're stuck in the Liberal system too and only hoping they can get changes made.

Welcome to reality my Orange blooded friends.

VFL...GBO!!!

Yes, it’s the liberals fault, especially when they have majority House/Senate control and their ultra liberal president, Donald Trump is unleashing his liberal wrath on Twitter.

This is starting to sound like a Witch Hunt? Can we burn our way to relevance again? I agree with others that since Dickey, it's just not been right in the Athletic Department. We'll know if Currie has the authority to bring athletics back. In the 80's, UT sports overall used to rank among the best in the country. Now, not close to the best in the SEC.

Well boy wonder you need to research the definition of liberal because it is not limited to just the Democrat party or the Republicans. Bob Corker, Lindsey Graham, John McCain, Murkowski, Collins, etc. are just as liberal as the Democrat party so it really doesn't matter what Trump tweets or doesn't tweet. Not to mention the Federal Courts and the Supreme Court, nothing has really changed since the election.

:clapping:The whole UT athletics programs has gotten worse each year since the retirement of Dr. Joe Johnson in 2011. Doug Matthews on his radio show has commented on this many times. Fortunately DiPietro will retire in 2019, but we are still stuck with Davenport. The president that UT needs is Dr. Brian Noland of ETSU who is a graduate of UT Knoxville. He is the one with assistance from Phillip Fulmer that re-established the ETSU football program.

Reports say Gruden could possibly have been here before, but a problem with the President's office interfered.

'Like Haynesworth, our Tennessee insider Jimmy Hyams is hearing that it’s Tenneessee’s preferance not to fire Jones before the end of the season.

As for “JG,” that’s Jon Gruden. Volumes have been written about Gruden potentially coaching the Volunteers.

His final comment seems to indicate that Gruden has wanted the job previously – he reportedly has been approached previously – but that presidential interference at the university level fouled those pursuits up.

The cu
rrent University of Tennessee system president is Joseph DiPietro who assumed the office on January 1, 2011.'

Under DePietro, the dancing college president:

Football--middle/lower of the pack
Baseball--bottom of the pack
Basketball--middle/lower of the pack
Soccer--middle/lower of the pack
Volleyball--middle/lower of the pack
Women's basketball--middle of the pack
Softball--upper echelon (thank you Ralph and Karen)
Swimming, Tennis, Track & Field--not sure, but my impression is middle of the pack at best. What did i miss?

Wasn't there a time when we excelled in at least some of these things? Seems most of sports have gone to sh-t since DiPietro showed up. Is this all coincidence?

Absolutely, DePietro is a big part of the problem and the hiring of Davenport didn't help. It was a Title IX political hire.

Then UT interviewed 2 good football men in Blackburn and Fulmer. The BOT and prominent boosters fussed and fumed with each other for months and finally agreed on a compromise alternate in Currie. Complete stupidity and a bellweather for how asinine our Admin handles things.

DiPietro is listening to Fulmer. Fulmer remembers how he was treated and doesn't want Butch to get done that way. Thus CBJ will stay until the Vols lose 6 or more games.

Have you heard of the No True Scotsman fallacy? Because that’s your argument: No True Scotsman - RationalWiki

Those guys ran as conservatives and got elected.

Uh, academia is overrun with liberals.
Bad example.

How do liberals and conservatives vary when it comes to hiring coaches? Florida is another academic institution that just canned McElwain, are they just way more conservative than us?

How about the life time staffers in government?

You’re closer than anyone who blames only liberals or conservatives. Anyone who believes it’s only liberals or only conservatives who are the problem, I have some sweet swamp land in Florida to sell them.

Anyway, back to football :hi:

Didn't the academic side take over after they left and raise the standards to get in? Are those standards still in place?

There are minimal entrance requirements for UT. The academic side is every bit as anemic as athletics.
