Funny comparison, but i thought I would take our current team's analogy back to 1980 when UGA won the national championship with Hershel Walker at Rb. If we have the type of run game that we could with our potential at the position, if we just have a qb that can hand the ball off and make a critical 3rd down throw, we can be good. National championship, well, let's just say we should win more than we lose with what we have and that's saying something after last year.

If there are any out there that remember that year, maybe we could share some insight.

I'm pretty sure that ole Ben Franklin and Hershel had a better and deeper line in front of them. With McNeil going down we are scary thin at postions all over the O.

crompton can be a game manager, but he has the potental to do so much more, i think hes finaly found the system he is most comfrortable with.

no.

buck belue can hand the ball off.

i am totally and completely serious about this.

i wouldn't trust crompton in any ball security scenario. i don't trust him to not throw interceptions. i don't trust him to hand the ball off without fumbling. heck, i don't trust him to handle the qb-center exchange.

i don't think vince dooley had to worry about those things with buck belue

Crompton's problems handing off worry me at least as much as his throwing. I've been telling myself that that's got to be exactly the kind of basic technique problem that the last coaching staff didn't bother to correct, but which these coaches almost certainly will.

This one's fine right where it's at.

The better question is: Is there a reason you capitalized "Better Than"?

Capitalization of headings is standard, according to some stylebooks. You could make a perfectly reasonable argument that the title of a thread counts as a heading. It's certainly not any worse than, say, capitalizing a single sentence following a colon like you just did.

But congratulations on what has to be the most pedantic grammar flame in VN history. Man, you really showed him up.

Belue didn't commit unforced errors and knew his limitations. I'd take Belue over Crompton at this point. Might change my mind after seeing how Crompton plays in this offense.

I wonder how much of the hand-off issues were Foster. He barely practiced in the Spring, stayed home over the summer, and didn't practice that much in the Fall with a new offense and new QB. There were a lot of plays where he ligned up wrong or ran the wrong direction. When these mistakes cause a fumble, typically the QB is blamed.

I think the attention to detail, Crompton's comfort level with this offense and getting lots of work with the RBs this off season should minimize that stuff.

Here's a picture utvolpj posted earlier this month from that butchered play at the end of the first half of the UF game last year:

The ball's on the ground before it ever got to Foster because Crompton hit the fullback with it. I'm reluctant to just blame all the handoff problems on Foster and assume it'll be better because he's gone.

SURELY that's something that ought to be easily fixable though.

I have high hopes for Kiffin but I've got to wonder why in the hell he even brought Crompton back. Didn't he watch any tapes of Crompton in action? Its my understanding that Crompton graduated in the spring. It seems to me that UT did not need to offer him a scholarship for the '09 season.

on what grounds would you not renew his scholarship? Without JC on the team we are left with a QB who couldn't even beat him out. Doesn't sound like a good move at all

Is this a serious post? JC is the best qb on this team. So kicking him off the team makes no sense at all.

It's true JC is the best we have...but the reality of it is it's like comparing Lassie to Fido....Lassie being the smarter one but their both rather retarded.

I see you edited your statement... hmm. Maybe I should have done that, too? Good job.

Belue had one big play in his career, a routine 20 yard curl to Lindsey Scott against florida, who took it to the house and avoided a huge upset, on the way to UGA's miracle title in 1980. Other than that, he was average, and just handed the ball to hershel walker.
