Given that we all seem to pretty much agree that the Vols' defense is the neediest part of the team, I wonder what you guys think about Chavis's capacity to make adjustments? Clearly, we have a front-D that underachieved against Cal. Underachievement is always a coaching deficiency.

So to the heart of my question: Randy Sanders was the master of 'more-of-the-same.' Will Chavis be able to take this group of moderate to above-average defensive guys and inspire them to play above their heads, or are we in for a long season of living room damage when the Vols don't have the ball?

This is a preposterous accusation. This board is getting to be as radical as the stupid NCAA message board.

Calm down Mullet, geez.

To answer the question based on his career, hell no. Based on this season...to be determined. After we play uga and uf, we'll know if Chavis has the "capacity to make adjustments"

John Chavis has fielded some very good defenses over his tenure. Bring on the prowler!!!!!

That was freaking awesome. Had UF and the fans scratching our heads wondering what the heck was going on. Then, by golly, it worked.

this D is not without its beef; it should've performed better, no?

Hey, I hear ya. Yes the D should have played better and thats one thing that you can count on. The chief will get it worked out.

But you could have just called his mother insulting names and it would have been less of an insult.

One bad game? How about not being able to stop Air Force and fed the excuse that we don't see it that often? Nobody else seemed to have as much trouble last year stopping AF with lesser talent and speed on defense (they finished with a losing record).

What about not getting a third and long stop all night in the LSU game last year?

If we have moderate to average players on defense we are in trouble. Randy probably was not a bad coach he just was afraid to open up the offense. I imagine Chavis could tackle as well as we did Saturday.

I'm not quite sure we saw the true offense that randy wanted to run at Tennessee. It seemed to have more of a conservative fingerprint on it.

I'm pretty sure you're not legally obligated to be here. Brent Hubbs will gladly take your money and pump all the sunshine you can handle.

I'm sure VolQuest or some other suckup board has plenty of room anytime you would like to leave.

Just so I can get a good laugh, again. You are contending that Chavis' ability to run a defense can be compared to Randy Sanders' ability to run an offense? This should be good.
