Is Barnes the Best Coach in CB right now?

I think so.

Getting his team to possibly the #1 ranking by tomorrow without a bunch of One & Done talent is pretty impressive.

My top coaches right now would be:
1. Barnes
2. Coach K
3. Bennett
4. Mark Few
5. Kermit Davis

Coaches better than Rick Barnes right now:

Calipari, Coach K, Roy, Self, Izzo, Jay Wright, Tony Bennett, Mark Few, John Beihlein, Jim Boeheim, Pearl, Lon Kruger, Chris Mack, Archie Miller, Sean Miller, Mic Cronin, Kermit Davis all come immediately to mind as better coaches now and in recent history. These guys haven't forgotten how to coach and have been more successful. Keep in mind that this coach you are equating to the Big Boys has 2 losing records and a 2nd round flame out the last 3 years after getting run out of Texas for lack of performance (3 tourney wins in 7 years). Slow the roll. Being ranked #1 in January means zippo.

Play my game? You are strange.

Cal is one of the best recruiters in the game.

He has taken several teams farther then expected in the Tourney. So I will say above average game coach.

Average developer.

Barnes is an average recruiter.
Great game day coach
And above average developer.

With that being said recruiting is the life blood of a program. It should be weighted , in my opinion, more heavily then the other two.

Top 5 active coaches does not include Barnes. Izzo, Wright, K, Self, and Roy all are leaps and bounds ahead of Barnes. Cal is ahead of Barnes as well. Just look at both coaches results this past decade.

All of that being said, Barnes is doing a hell of a job the past two years. But let’s at least achieve something of note in a post season tourney before rolling this out.
I really wouldn't think you would understand, as evidenced by your question mark.

It's funny how much you really want to be a Vol! You keep showing up....lingering....hoping.....wishing.....you could be a Vol. But, you don't qualify. Keep showing up in our forum, and it just continues to be evident of your true desire.

I tried to give you a chance, but you are losing credibility with every post. Hope you stumble upon some sense if you're going to keep posting here.

Lol. I don’t even know where to begin. I understand that K, Izzy, Boeheim, Cal, Roy, Self, and probably Wright are either Hall of Famers or will be in the future.

But, Cronin, Kermit Davis, or even Pearl and Tony Bennet? I like Bennett as a coach, but his record still doesn’t match Barnes. The others aren’t even worth comparing.

You obviously don’t know the situation Barnes inherited either. Just foolish.

Ah one of those guys. You aren’t impressing anyone. Questioning others fandom in your post below. Now I know it’s a holiday, but I would advise you not to use all of your parental allowed internet time before dinner. No one likes petulant children throwing temper tantrums when it’s time for teeth brushing.

You must have slept thru his first 25 posts. Who could blame you? They were all full of dumb, too.

Tony Bennett has won 3 out of the last 5 ACC Championships, without a doubt the toughest basketball conference. In the last 10 years he has gone to the (1) Sweet 16 at Washington State (first tourney berth since 1994) and (1) Sweet 16 and (1) Elite 8 at UVA after inheriting a 10-18 team. His team is currently #4 with the only loss to #1 Duke by 2.

Mic Cronin hasn't missed an NCAA tournament in 8 years and has 1 Sweet 16 in that span, after inheriting a program in utter disarray (Google Bob Huggins firing 2005).

But please, tell me more about what a bad situation Barnes inherited compared to other coaches with more wins and deep runs in the tournament over the last 10 years.

Barnes record is more akin to Tubby Smith's -very successful at a Tier 1 school 12-20 years ago and not so much since then. It's easier to call someone foolish than it is to, oh, I don't know pull up this thing called Wikipedia or Google, compare the coaches records, and determine whether coach A is in the same class as coaches B, C, D, etc.

Those tiger high tears sure are salty.

Not salty. Just realistic. Rick Barnes has won 4 NCAA tournament games in the last decade. All the coaches the OP was comparing him to have National Titles, Final Fours, Conference titles on their resumes in the same span. Some have multiples of these. K, Roy, Wright have multiple Nattys. Cal, Self, Izzo have multiple FFs. The additional one's I added (Bennett, Cronin, Millers) all have more tourney wins and in most cases deep runs in the tourney. Facts are facts. Opinions shaped in Orange colored glasses are silly.

Bennett (just like his dad) runs an incredibly boring system that could put a 12 year old ADHD kid to sleep after drinking a gallon of red bull... Also, he will always be the first coach to lose to a 16 seed - and he got his butt kicked by 20 points on top of that.

Okay, but it's people like you that create this arbitrary 10 year window to prove your point. No one is arguing that over the past 10 years, Rick Barnes is the best coach in the SEC, let alone America. So you are constructing a defense of an argument that doesn't exist, and in doing so, you are ignoring the actual question at hand, either intentionally or ignorantly.

Coach K, Jay Wright, Roy W are the best. Beilien, Cal and a few other after. Barnes right with that second tier. If he wins a NC then he will be up there with Wright and K.

Coach Barnes is the best coach in college ball because he is super at player development, as evidenced by his coaching of our team which isn’t made up of one and dones, rather super athletes coached to win! Go Vols! Beat Vandy and then West Va, then everyone else!

Barnes is clearly the best at teaching fist balling.

And Tiger High still lost.

Derrick Walker still struggles. He hasn’t taken a step forward imo. A lot of those decisions fall on the players dedication.

Yves Pons...idk. Needs MAJOR work on the offensive end and needs more focus on the defensive end.

We will see with these two....

(I do agree tho, he’s an impressive player developer.)
