Is Ainge changing the play at the line of scrimmage from running plays to pass?

Could this be the reason UT didn't run the ball more against Alabama? As a pass oriented QB, Ainge would probably prefer to throw the ball more then run it. Even though it would be better for the offense's success to run the ball more.

That might be a drawback with allowing the QB to change to play at the line. It's hard for me to believe Cutcliffe didn't want to see more running plays Saturday.

I don't think that is the main reason why we didn't run. I think Cutcliffe abandoned it for whatever reason.

I bet we run the crap out of the ball this weekend.

He has a really bad trach record of abandoning the run.
I sure hope we run the ball down the ole ball coaches throat.

i don't think so. we still do so much checking with the sidelines, i don't think Ainge checks out of all that many plays. i know he does, but i haven't seen it with enough regularity to say that "that's the reason".

my opinion on that is we have started out running the ball early in the last couple of games, and it worked. i think in Cut's mind, there's a point early in the game that if we've broken off a few runs that we've established the running game and now it's time to test the def. down the feild.

and last week that didn't work, we stalled on a couple of drives, Bama capitalized and before we knew it we were down 10 or more and midway thru the 3rd quarter the running game as of no consequence.

that's simply my theory based on what i've seen.
i posted this in the other thread when you asked the same question......

Most of the time when Ainge changes the play, it is still called in by the coaches on the sideline/box.

I bet Spurrier watches the Alabama tape and they probably throw it at least 45 times, cant blame them if they do...

I'm the biggest Ainge critic on here, and I don't think that is on Ainge. I believe if that were the case, you would have heard one of these coaches use that as an excuse.

I think he's running the plays that the coaches are calling...

They say they want to be balanced. I think they are guilty of trying to do to many things. They try to get to many people involved instead of feeding the hot hand. This offense has no identity. They seem lost. Simplify everything and run the ball until someone stops you from doing it. This staff is almost guilty of outthinking themselves, god i can't believe i said that anyway hopefully you get my point.

You know what... I just thought about something. They've been doing that for a while, and I'm not so sure that Saban didn't pick up on that (which explains the clock malfunctions). I wouldn't be surprised if these guys are not changing or disguising their signals from the sidelines when Ainge has to look over to them for plays. The clock fiasco in Bama was probably one way for getting Tennessee out of rhythm on offence and hurrying the plays. I wouldn't be surprsied at all if they come back this weekend with the same signals they've used all year and the USC coaching staff has already figured out what plays their changing into. That defense is already good, but if they have an idea of what the play is presnap (or if they can force them to change into a play they want), this could be a very long game.

I don't think that will happen. There are 3 or 4 guys giving signals on the sidelines at 1 time.

I am wondering if Hefney is changing the defensive plays at the line. Going from "cover receivers" to not covering receivers.

C'mon OP, pay attention. Ainge doesn't change plays, which is evidenced by looking at the sideline like meerkats.
