Is Ainge better? You decide

Our running game (or lack thereof) and the play-action pass will define Erik this year.

You know what would be amazing is if Ainge improves as much from '06 to '07 as he did from '05 to '06.

I still think the wr's could really hurt him this season. Good thing is we will find out soon enough.:crossfingers:

Not possible, IMO. He would be the best QB to ever play the game if he improved that much. I would be satisfied if he simply played as well this year as he did last. IMHO, however I think he steps up his game.

Anyone that Cutcliffe has faith enough in to run the no-huddle offense, something he has been wanting to do for a long time but did not have the right QB, is clearly capable of playing the position as well as it has been played here.

The WR's will be a concern until they prove they can be effective. Catching the ball when thrown to them would be a good start, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if our wide receiving core turns out to be one of the better units in the sec by season's end.

Anything less then making it to the SEC Championship Game this year, will leave me disappointed.

Not exactly. His completion % went from 45% to 67%. Obviously he isn't going to get much better than 67%. But he went from 5 td's to 19. Even if he threw 14 more this season that would put him at 34 for the season.

Lets say his stats are 65% comp, 34td's, 5 int's and 3400 yards. That would not make him automatically the best qb of all time.

I mean Peyton threw for 37 td's his senior year with 3819 yards and didn't win the Heisman.

So Ainge would not be the greatest of all time.

So he won't improve as much as he did from 05 to 06.

The strides he made in that time were amazing. While he may improve some, there is no reason to think he will make the same leap. I believe you missed the point.

Okay. That was kind of my point.

I exaggerated the greatest of all time, but you get my point.

He will be fine but I can't help but wonder with all the numbers everyone is throwing out there both good and bad......Is EA just a system qb?

Without a doubt the biggest change in EA is his mental approach to football. I don't think he is a system QB especially since we are changing the system and he appears fine with it. I just think the kid got mentally rattled and needed to be fixed. I'm more concerned with the WR actually catching the ball.

just dont turn the ball over, which has been Erik's undoing in the past

I definately find it strange that we were ranked 12th in passing offense in the SEC with the big year from Ainge.

I think Ainge will be better but his numbers may not show it due to an improved running game and inexperienced WR'S.

It will be interesting to go back and read this thread 4 or 5 games into the season. A lot of folks were anti Ainge in 05 and I can honestly say I was one of them. I was concerned about some decisions under pressure and the way he handled things. He seems to have his head on straight under Cut. I hope he is extremely successful.

GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!

You are equating his improvement directly to numbers. The WR problems could keep his numbers from jumping from last year. But just becuase his numbers do not jump does not mean he is not improved. I think he will be a drastically better QB than last season, even though his numbers will probably be similar if not reduced.

I hoping EA has as good of a year as last. Inexperience at wr will probably hurt his stats. And hopefully an improved running game will cut his stats down. Either way, GO VOLS!!

So much of a QB's success is dependent on thingsoutside his control. The running game needs to be good, the blocking needs to give him time, and the receivers have to pick up some yards after making catches. All posiitons depend to some degree on the efficiency of others, but QB is probably the most dependent on everyone else for good production.

Still, as goes Ainge this year, so go the Vols.

eh, i'd put it more on the D and WR's. if we can get good solid production there, the rest will be fine.

now had you said Brandon Cox.......i'd agree 100%....:p
