I say you bet!

Here are some quotes and numbers from SI.

"Erik has everything you look for in a top-level quarterback," says Cutcliffe. "He can make special throws, he's got touch, he's a leader, he's smart, and he's well on his way to being a great one. He should do very, very well in our no-huddle."
Cutcliffe won't reveal how often Tennessee will run the no-huddle -- "It's too early to tell," he says, "but it will be something our opponents had better be prepared for" -- though he acknowledges that the success of that look and the Vols' season will depend largely on Ainge. The two have formed a strong bond: In '06, his first season under Cutcliffe's tutelage, Ainge's completion rate rose from 45.5% to 67.0%, his touchdown passes increased from five to 19, and his QB rating swelled from 89.94 to 151.95.

I think he's going to do just fine, but I don't exactly look to the words of his OC for comfort.

But is this going to turn into another thread where one side has to drill one of our players into the ground to prove their point? I am all for open debate, but that gets old sometimes. 2 cents.

It shouldnt. I think the numbers speak for themselves that he was dramatically better in 06 than 05. It really is that simple. I feel pretty good in that Cut is willing to install a whole new offense around this QB. His track record with QB's are pretty good.

He had a great year last year and is a dang good QB. His numbers wont be as good this year though since he lost his top 3 WRs... or atleast early they wont be as good.

I'm hoping his numbers aren't as good this year yardage wise due to us having some semblance of a running game.

Absolutely Yes. Ainge is now the QB we expected to have after his freshman season. Cut has been wonderful for him and he will make it at the next level. Prototype NFL size, arm and intelligence. IMHO

I wonder sometimes if our QBs work out enough. Casey never looked like he got much bigger and Ainge fits the same profile. Maybe it is the fault of the individual or a problem with training philosophy in regards to our QBs?

Ainge is similar in size to Manning

Ainge:
6-6
Weight: 220 lbs.

Manning
6-5
Weight: 230 lbs.

And keep in mind that's Manning in the NFL. I'm sure he weighed less while at UT.

You know what would be amazing is if Ainge improves as much from '06 to '07 as he did from '05 to '06.

I still think the wr's could really hurt him this season. Good thing is we will find out soon enough.:crossfingers:

That is wild. I was thinking the exact same thing a day or so ago.

Unfortunately, that too was the main reason that I thought we probably wouldn't be able to see if he actually did make that much of an improvement.

I think I remeber hearing that Ainge put on some extra muscle in the off season.

I definately find it strange that we were ranked 12th in passing offense in the SEC with the big year from Ainge.

Stats schmats.

Personally, I don't care if he's better or worse...numbers mean nothing if they don't translate into SEC Championships and National Championships.

A program like Tennessee should be vying for nothing less. The talent that's been there over the years and they haven't sniffed a National Championship since '98.

For nearly the last 10 years it's been underachiever U so it's time to get it rollin' baby!! Let's get it ROLLIN!

But if you don't win a championship....you better beat Bama. You better beat that crimson wearin,' lyin' coach havin, good for nothin Bama. I've got too many Bama lovin' family members breathin' down my neck so you better beat BAMA!

Yeeeeehhhhaaaawwwww.....Go Vols.......Havin fun,
K

He'll have a good year, but he's got to stay healthy. His completion percentage might not be as high, but he might end up with better stats overall if that's possible.

It depends on the run game. We've put up big numbers in the passing game with a good running game before so we'll see.

He will be fine but I can't help but wonder with all the numbers everyone is throwing out there both good and bad......Is EA just a system qb?
