Prior to this season, many on here, myself included, pointed to 2012 as our chance to at least compete for an SEC title (win the east). The schedule is cupcake-ish compared to this year. No Arky, No LSU. My question to all of you guys kind of gets to the root of the Derek Dooley controversy around here. Is 8-5 good enough for Dooley to get another year.

Think about it, 5 losses. Either we get upset, or we lose to Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and the bowl game. In my opinion that would suck big time with the talent we have returning. So my answer is "no", if Dooley goes 8-5, he should NOT be retained.

If he is, 2013 will be ugly. I am not leaving a wishy-washy "depends how it looks option up." If you don't know whether you would be satisfied or not, then just don't vote.

Votes are public.

It won't be good enough for me, but it will probably be good enough for the fanbase in general (excluding the radio and internet crowd), boosters, and AD.

No. It's 9-10 regular season wins or bust for Dooley. I'd be fine with a 9 win regular season then a top level bowl win, as well. Anything less than that? Throw him out. I'll be done defending him at that point, at least.

Absolutely not.

Just because Dooley screwed up this year doesn't mean we should lower standards for him the next year.

He knows what the expectations are. Live up to them or get the hell out.

If the 5th loss is in a bowl game then, yes, it is ok. Limping in to a bowl at 7-5 against next year's line-up of cupcakes probably wouldn't cut it for me.

The UK lost hurt his job security. With 8 wins, I would have said "It depends." Now, it needs to be a nine win season.

Depends if the 5th loss is the bowl game. If 5 regular season losses DD won't coach the bowl game.

We'll have to see how the rest of the schedule pans out... So far it looks like this:

9/1 NC State
9/8 Georgia State
9/15 Florida
9/22 Akron
9/29 @ Georgia
11/3 Troy
11/17 @ Vanderbilt
11/24 Kentucky

Presumably mix in the new division game with Missouri, a home game against Bama and one more west division opponnent... Mississippi State maybe? I think there's five wins built in.

Short answer is probably.

Wow - don't know if 8-5 would be good enough with UF and Bama and the new SEC powerhouse KY at home

Lots of idiots voting in this poll so far. The answer is yes and it's not even really debatable. Has a coach EVER been fired after winning more games than any of the previous 4 seasons OR after winning 8 games OR after improving by 3 wins?

I voted YES, but that is IF one of those 8 wins is against a team we should not or were not expected to Beat

Different situation because, no offense, the shot-callers at Michigan have some sand up in their unmentionable bits about who coaches their football team.

Yes, but it didn't help his third year was seven wins and "improvement"

Why would people have thought that Arkansas wasn't going to be on our schedule? Only recently (with the addition of A&M and Missouri) would people have a reason to think the schedule would not have Arkansas on it. I personally think we will still play Arkansas next year. So 4 OOC wins, favored vs UK and Vandy. Dogs to Arkansas and Bama. That means we would have to win 3 of the following games @UGA @USC home for UF and probably home for Missouri. I think saying Dooley has to win 3 of those games or upset very good Ark or Bama teams to keep his job is a bit unfair.

In my mind, it depends on how we look. The only way I'd be very confident in our future is if he got 9.

In the AD's mind, probably yes.
