Bear with me MODs. I was watching a young freshman place his team on his shoulders and almost lead his team to victory over the #13 team in the country. Yes he made some mistakes, but he also made some incredible plays and he never thought of quitting in my opinion.

The irony is that this young man lived and played high school football in the shadow of Neyland Stadium. I don't think we gave serious consideration to recruiting him until we had realized our class was lacking, but by then it was too late and Kentucky (via Randy Sanders / Joker Phillips) had sealed the deal.

The irony is that I truly believe that with him this year, given the results our current QB stable has provided, we may have at least two more victories and at least a little hope. The only negative is it may have been enough to save CPF from forced retirement, which I truly believe needed to happen.

The irony is this kid is probably going to stick it to us because the current regime chose to ignore him.

Just a little fodder for anyone, if they're still out there, who believes that Coach Fulmer should remain in charge in any way whatsoever of this team.

We've let a lot of good player's get out of state on phillip's watch. Its nothing new.

Some of you are acting like Cobb is the second coming of Christ. He's doing alright. He's obviously in a lot better system than any of our QBs right now. Cobb would fail just as miserably as the rest of our QBs if he were playing at UT right now.

Would I take him? Yes. Would I take him based on what we all THOUGHT we had at the beginning of the season? Probably not unless we just have scholarships to throw around.

That is crazy stuff. Everyone knows that TN lacks "star" players. (Actually, the next coach could help himself greatly by closing the borders.)

We may have let Cobb get away..it sounds like we had some interest late and couldn't get him. But, let's face it - it's not exactly letting guys get away when Alabama, USC, and Notre Dame are getting guys not because Tennessee didn't want them, but because they wanted those schools more. There isn't all that much top-notch talent in Tennessee, we get a good amount of it, mis-judge and let some go (Cobb, perhaps, I don't know..), and try to get others and can't win them (which happens way too much, unfortunately).

Like I said in my post......Cobb makes mistakes, but he gave effort and can throw and run well. He is a legitimate dual threat that we could have used. Second Coming?..........of Christ no..........of any quarterback who can make a first down yes.

Boyd is also a dual threat QB. He will make you forgot about Cobb as long as he stays committed.

I think it is kind of like the Lofton/Kentucky&Louisville situation.

They both wouldn't of minded having him - but there just wasn't any room because if you look at their recruiting classes they had far better players committed. Atleast far better according to everyone in the country at that time. But Cobb will never turn out to be on the same level Lofton is. Never - not even close. He would've failed in our system as well.

The current system is a failure in and of itself, so the only kind of player who could possibly succeed is one who takes it upon himself to perform. A player who can make something out of nothing. Our current offensive players look and act like those lost little androids without their "Brain Ship" from Star Wars (Sorry I don't know the names)

All I'm trying to say is that I think a Randall Cobb type player would have made a difference, and him being so close plus a willingness to play for us if we had shown interest would have made a difference. And they (the soon to be outcasts) blew it.

And Randall Cobb is not a "possible talent". In my humble opinion, he showed some great flashes yesterday, flashes of good things to come. You could almost see Sanders and Brooks high fiving each other mentally.

You had a great kid at Carter that got away 6'8" 300 plus with lineage beyond belief Uncle Jack Reynolds dad Art Reynolds Fulmer wanted him to walk on been starting for Carolina since maybe his Freshman yr.The list goes on.

Too early to tell, but all he's done so far is singlehandedly win 4 games for UK this year.

Ya'll can have Lones Seiber back.

Cobb would have been red shirted here and we would know no more about him than we do BJ Coleman right now.

True. the only reason he didn't RS at UK is because Curtis Pulley couldn't put down the roach clip.

You've got a great point there, he probably would have wasted away on the bench and lost all drive to play hard.
