Perhaps a bit ironically, Florida's win over LSU today ensured that the SEC East will not suffer one of its worst seasons in history against the West.

The worst year for the East was 2010. That year, we went 2-17 (11%) against the West. We've never had a worse year, before or since.

The number of East-vs-West games dropped when we expanded to accept A&M and Mizzou in 2012, from 19 total (3 per team plus CG) to 15 total (2 per team plus CG).

Our worst year since that shift was just last year, 2015. We went 2-13. The percentage was slightly better than 2010, at 13%, even though we didn't find any more Ws. Whether 2-13 or 2-17, the low marks for the East have been years with just two wins against the West.

2016 was looking like it might be a repeat of that low mark, until today. Yesterday, we were 2-9. Now we're 3-9, with three games to go (Vandy - Ole Miss, Mizzou - Arkansas, and FL - Bama in the CG).

There's every chance we'll end the year 3-12 as a division. None of those three games look promising for the East. Nonetheless, the padding is in place; we will not repeat the 2-13 record of 2015. The year 2010 stands as the worst of all.

I know, a lot of folks will respond, "I don't care about this; I'm heartbroken that we just lost any chance of getting to Atlanta."

I share your pain. I just find it a bit ironic that the East got the "insurance policy" with the FL-LSU game today.
