I'm thinking about upgrading from my G2 iPhone to the new G3.

Prices on eBay for original iPhones seem crazy - 300 or higher is not uncommon even for ones that are not unlocked and have the current operating system.

What gives? Why are they so valued if a new one is cheaper?

The new ones require you to sign a two-year contract with AT&T, which they are enforcing heavily. So the original iPhones retain a lot of value, since they can be easily unlocked and used on another carrier's network.

Not much yet, though I'm curious to see one. It's supposed to have a tactile-response feature on its on-screen keyboard that will make it easier to type on than the iPhone. I.e., when you push a button on the screen you can feel a little "click" somehow. I look forward to checking that out. I have not read good things about its web browser, unfortunately, so it may not change the current dynamic of "Blackberry if you care more about email; iPhone if you care more about the web" too much. Maybe it'll find a sweet spot in the tradeoffs between the two.
