"Investigators determined the director of sports surface management violated university policy when he accepted at least two paid trips and related entertainment from a department vendor which had previously been awarded an equipment lease worth $763,898," the release stated. "In 2016, the director traveled to Illinois for two days of golf, and he also participated in a golf scramble in Georgia. The vendor provided lodging, air fare (when applicable), green fees, and other privileges. This violated UT’s policy prohibiting university employees from accepting entertainment or other gifts exceeding $75 in value."

The director of sports surface management is Darren Seybold, according to the Athletics Department's staff directory. A 2017 database of UT salaries shows Seybold earns $73,192 a year.

Nt very much concern here except for those who took the benefits. They will have to reimburse the providers for those costs. They will be charged for leave or reimburse the University if they are no longer employed. Hardly news worthy.

How else could he know how good the equipment works without seeing it and experiencing it 1st hand?

It's a state investigation initiated by the University getting coverage from every news outlet in the state. How is this Memphis making a big deal of it? :hmmmm:
