Nightmare on Elm Street pretty much ruined the mid 1980s for me.

I watched Into the Wild Saturday afternoon - absolutely incredible if you're into existential type movies.

That movie kind of haunted me too. I knew how it was going to end and yet still watching it was sooo eerie.

Other movies that had a similar effect on me...
1. American History X
2. Blood Diamond
3. Crash
4. Magnolia
5. No Country for Old Men

After watching each of those movies I had one word that I just kept saying in my head..."Damn."

did the end bother you at all? i knew what was going to happen because i had read a bit about the story, but the way it was filmed when it all came to an end...ridiculous.

Isn't that the movie with the soundtrack by Eddie Vedder? What's it about?

I see Sean Penn was a writer and director which makes me think I won't like it.

yeah vedder pretty much does every song.

it's about a guy that graduates from college and decides he doesnt want to pursue a career. gives all of his savings account money to charity and ends up in alaska. lot more to it than that. movie follows his travels across the country and into alaska and how he survives.

Yeah I absolutely loved the soundtrack. Even if you aren't interested in the movie I'd check out the soundtrack. It wasn't nominated for any Academy Awards but I think it may have picked up a Golden Globes nod.

It's about a college student that is fed up with society and materialism and decides that he wants to get out and experience "the wild". He meets a bunch of cool and interesting people with different perspectives on life. The screenplay may have been written by Sean Penn but it was originally a great best-selling book by Jon Krakauer. I really enjoyed it but I had several friends of mine that didn't like it.

I think you and I have similar tastes in movies, so I'm going to recommend it to you. There are 2 different, sometimes even 3, timelines woven together throughout the movie: his Alaska time, his travels BEFORE Alaska, and his childhood.

Emile Hirsch absolutely demolished the role: incredible

Also, Hal Holbrook, for his half hour of time, was incredible. Out of this world.

It's a great flick, a bit depressing for the masses, but I enjoy these kinds of existential movies.

I constantly tell myself to not rent movies that I have already read the book for. But then I constantly overrule myself. Watched it Saturday night. Thought it was OK, really enjoyed the Eddie Vedder music in it, but I would say my view of the movie is tarnished by having already read the book. It was a decent movie.

Another movie that has a seriously messed up ending "Baseketball" by the makers of Southpark. Was "Into the Wild" that kind of messed up?

I read the book years ago and it literally changed my outlook on life. I have yet to see the film but the book is one of my top 5.

I enjoyed the movie, but I thought the the main character was rather pathetic. He arrogantly got himself into that ending situation without properly preparing himself, and that lead to his death.

Vedder's covered the song Big Hard Sun for the movie, its a good one.

That book is a great read. The soundtrack is incredible. I am going to watch the movie this weekend. If you get a chance, I highly recommend the sound track if you have read the book. It is well written for sure. Goes perfectly with the book/movie.
