From another discussion board:
Interview comments from Coach Fulmer.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following are comments made by Fulmer yesterday and today in interviews. I don't know how much of this is included in the premium articles on Inside Tennessee, but I heard them on the radio.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
About the offensive line, Fulmer said he wasn't as worried as some people. He likes what Sears, Ligon, and Young offer, and said Sears and Young are as good as any offensive linemen in the conference. He said Josh McNeil has a lot of talent, but said the competion is ongoing for the center position. Said Jacques McClendon could be in the two deep at some point this fall (interesting comment, since McClendon has yet to don pads in practice at UT).
Fulmer said the Cottam brothers were both looking good.
He said Cory Anderson had a lot of talent, but that he was an underachiever. He said he hoped Cory would have a good year, though.
He said he likes the new looks of Arian Foster and Lamarcus Coker. Asked how Hardesty was coming along after surgery, Fulmer said he looked great in the sandbox, and that he hoped he would be ready for practice next month. He sounded pretty high on Hardesty's ability.
Fulmer said Jason Swain was showing as much leadership as any wide receiver he's seen in a long time.
Asked if Morley could play receiver, he said Morley probably could, but he needed to learn the safety position first and be more consistent. Also said Lucas Taylor was another that could probably play both ways.
All the injured players should be 100% by the time the season starts except for Walter Fisher, and they expected him to be ready a few weeks into the season.
He said Turk McBride might be as good as anyone in the SEC if you lined him up at end, but that Chavis thinks McBride and Harrell could be as good as any tackle combo in the SEC.
That's all I remember of his comments about players. He certainly sounded positive at this point, a couple of weeks before practice.
I'm sure Fulmer is chomping at the bits to get on the field. I know I'm ready to hear some good practice reports.
Oh, yes. Fulmer was asked about Stanley Asumnu. Fulmer said he went to work Saturday morning at 9:00 and saw Stanley working out, and he was already soaking wet, so he had been there a while already at 9:00. Fulmer said he sat down and talked with him awhile. He said he didn't know if Stanley could learn enough in one fall to help himself. But he praised Stanley's character and work ethic and said he felt like Stanley had had a positive effect on the team. I hope we get to see Stanley catch some touchdown passes this fall.
