John Gruden will be the next coach at UT. His agent has all but got his signature. If you follow JS airplane around its been in S. Fla. Twelve times in the last two weeks the private limo from that plane goes to Tampa Bay (Hilton Crown). Gruden is expected to make 3.3(M) increasing to 4.0 million in a five year deal. Remember you heard it here first. That announcement will come Jan 4, 2009. Gruden wants to keep as many recruits as possible so he will have to make his announcement before February. I broke this story August 2008. Not sure how this has been kept a secret.

Gruden to UT has been rumored for a long time. I will dig for evidence myself, but I will document you when it is released if true!"

Funny no one mentions anything about buying property in East Tennessee...

I don't understand how all these people have "inside sources"...yet none of them are true.

Supposedly, Fulmer steps down tomorrow (according to some VNers).

There‘s a rumor circulating that should the Tennessee Vols fire current Head Coach Phillip Fulmer, that they would then target Buccaneers Head Coach Jon Gruden. This rumor was said to have picked up legs from a Tennessee Titans source with inside information. The sources inside information states the Tennessee Vols are willing to pay Jon Gruden $5 Million a season. Gruden made $4.3 million in 2007 so I‘m not sure $5 million would be enough to leave Tampa especially considering he just signed a three year extension this off-season for what has to be more money per year. I think Gruden would be an excellent College Football Coach considering his passion for the game and his ability to get the most out of marginal talent, BUT I would worry about his ability to scout blue chip talent on a consistent basis, as he hasn’t brought in the of talent to Tampa, as the offense continues to rely on the defense pretty heavily. I realize that’s more on Bruce Allen, but we all know Gruden has say on who comes in personnel wise

I would take Gruden over any of the above mentioned candidates. His is a household name, and a prestigious one at that.

Bama was able to hire Saban away from the NFL. Hell, Arkansas was able to hire Petrino. Not that I think he would be as easy to get as those two, but in my opinion, he is more highly thought of than either, and has been there for a long time.

It wouldn't just be bringing in a coach with NFL experience, but one who not only coached, but was extremely successful at every job.

It may be unrealistic, as compared to Muschamp, but as compared to B. Davis? I couldn't say.

However, I'd take him over all the other mentioned candidates, with the possible exception of Bill Cowher (who I do have doubts about actually wanting the job). Those guys are hardly Lane Kiffin, Mike Nolan, or the guy who was Nebraska's head coach after Solich. They are proven winners.
