Its all a PROCESS....From where we have CRAWED from to WALKING....WIN this YEAR and we can start RUNNING...IN RECRUITING

CDD had a very short time to:
1. Keep the recruiting together after Kiffin left
2. Put together a staff that could turn the direction of the team, blend players
3. Then continue recruiting Coaches until the time was right to roll the current staff for the revampt staff
4. Continue Recruiting
5. 2013 Contend for a championship

On the flip side - the recruiting sites first rank/scout the good players.. at least the obvious ones.. so its more of the exception rather than the rule that Dooley got 2 guys that turned out to be 4 stars but were unranked at the time of the commitment.

These players were "rated" by our staff, and they surely have more riding on it than rivals or scout ! :hi:

I generally do not overestimate the value of rankings. Remember the goal for those sites is to make money... not win football games or be absolutely accurate.

HOWEVER, I do not want UT modeling their roster after BSU or TCU. Those teams have made a national name by basically playing scrubs all year to get to a BCS bowl game. If UT played 12 developmental games and then one real game... things would be a lot different.

How do the recruiting sites make money off of ranking these players?? They spend money to go watch them play, and travel to do interviews. The information from recruiting is where their money is at, not evaluating them.

Subscriptions. They don't do it for free.

Corruption occurs when they pander to the fanbases who subscribe the most.

Agree 100% We dont need coaches to invite kids to camp to see them perform in person and then look them up on rivals to see how many star they have before we offer.

According to some, that is exactly what they should be doing. Or better yet, only invite the ones with the best star ratings and not look at anyone else.

I've never paid a dime to VQ to get their evaluations of players, instead I pay for the information they gather on the recruits. Rankings have nothing to do with getting subscriptions, especially since you can see those for free on the site anyway.

Armchair Vol fan checks Rivals & Scout, sees that new UT commit is unranked and unevaluated. Instantly says:

Montori Hughes is a guy that Rivals, and everyone else screwed up on evaluating him, but his grades were so bad, that it's amazing he made it in to school to start with.

He wasn't that good - he was great for like 40 plays in his career - the other plays he was just a huge body who didn't do crap and was embarrassed by players with half his physical skills.

Two of the unrated players are now 4-stars. Point is, Rivals is behind most of the time.

Austin Sanders is one of the two players but since he committed almost a year ago it's not accurate to say Rivals was late on him. Who is the other unrated player that Rivals now has as a 4 star?

Carr

Ok but in fairness to Rivals and to give a realistic view of our recruiting class so far Carr committed over 6 months ago so it's not surprising that he wasn't rated at that time. Everyone knew he was going to be a high 3 or 4 star player.

Rivals currently has over 6,000 players rated in their 2013 recruiting database. There are 10 SEC teams without a single NR high school player committed for 2013 Alabama, Texas A&M, Georgia, Florida, LSU, Auburn, South Carolina, Mississippi, Vanderbilt and Kentucky (they don't count though). There are 2 teams that have 1 NR HS player while we have 3 NR HS players plus one NR Juco player. It's not that Rivals is late on these guys. Rivals doesn't seem to be late rating the players committed to other SEC schools. It's still early and this class will change alot between now and Feb but as of today we are off to a bad start especially if you consider that one of our most highly rated players has close to a zero chance of getting in school and another say's he is only 65-70% committed.

Coaches put their careers and often alot of money on the line when they take a kid's commitment.

The recruiting sites risk next to nothing. The only people who actually notice when they overrate a player is the fans of the schools that recruited him. People seldom take a whole view of their accuracy. They do reasonably well giving high ratings to guys who deserve it. But for every 4-5* player they promote, they miss 2 that might be just as deserving.
