Tennessee receiver coach Trooper Taylor said offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe and quarterback Rick Clausen were able to pick up Cal's defensive backfield signals from the sideline, which led to the Vols' 21-point, third-quarter outburst.

Yeah, it's been posted a couple of times already. I don't know why Trooper would admit to that though.

The point being, they were lazy in their signal calling... too bad.

We have three different guys signaling at times just to avoid that problem.

:p

That was pretty funny.

On keeping it to himself, I'll bet the other teams in Knoxville this year will keep Troop's ability to read sign language in the back of their minds. We might see a few Navajo Wind Talkers in the skybox before the year is over. Maybe the leak was planned after all...

Personally I'm glad he said it b/c now people will continue to overlook our offense. They will just point to the fact that we stole signals as why we blew out Cal. Let them think that all they want. When we play them they will soon find out that there is a little more to it than that.

Almost sounds like a SNL skit coming on. They must have really been obvious. Like making a throwing motion for pass and trotting for run, or lay down quarterback for their going to blitz.

A post on a Cal board said that if true it would be at least the second time that had happened.
Sounds like they should work on those signals...

Also, do you really need to steal a sign to see single coverage on Meachem with no safety help....

OrangeSquare - That was my POINT. I KNOW he's gone. The original post said Rick Clausen "quarterback," not "grad assistant," or "quarterback coach."

I was playing on the fact that the doofus fron "The Tennessean" made a mistake. :detective:

Ah, Very good then. My bad.

I think most people here missed that.

I'm pretty sure I saw him on the sideline during the Cal game. Maybe it was just during warmups though.

Yeah, he's on the field during warm-ups, but he goes up to the pressbox after that with Cutcliffe and either Luke or Roper, I can't remember which one.

Coach TT said that in a post-game interview. When I read it, I wondered if CPF would invite him into his office for a serious chat.

No big deal it's part of the game. all sports do it. The base runner on second is always trying to intercept the catcher's signal. and whin the home run comes nothing is said about it.
