We'll I had to come back to Miami yesterday after being in my hometown Chattanooga for three weeks during holidays and had a interesting conversation with a louisville commit on the plane sitting next to me but 1st.

1st I saw Curt Maggitt at the Charlotte Airport and I was all decked out in my new Vols hoodie and Vols cap. He was texting someone but when he saw me with all my Vols gear walking by he looked up and it was kinda weird but he looked very excited and almost like he wanted to say "Go Vols" to me! I almost stopped and spoke to him but knowing that recruits don't like to be bothered I just kept walking. Hope he liked the Big Orange colors I had on!! ha ha

2nd on my flight back I sat next to John Miller Scout.com: John Miller Profile who is a guard commit to Louisville on his way back from West Virginia on a visit. We talked about recruiting. Of course, I rubbed in Go Vols the whole conversation!! He told me all the Miami boys "recruits" are wanting to get out of Miami now that Randy Shannon is gone and a bunch are going to Louisville, him, Teddy Bridgewater, Eli Rogers and like 12 more Miami or South Florida recruits and they really like Coach Strong. He says he was never recruited by the Vols but he told me that Tennessee is well reguarded in South Florida and if the Vols would recruit a little more they could sign a bunch of South Florida kids now that Shannon is gone plus he says his teammates love the "Big Orange" colors!!! ha ha He was a very nice kid and hope he does well at Louisville but being that he is about 6'3" and over 300lbs and I'm 6'2" and 250lbs it was kinda tight sitting together on the flight back. GBO!!

That is very interesting....eventful flights. South FL is a hot spot no doubt. Which coach of ours would have the best ties in that area?

I would Darin Hinshaw since he is from Florida but I could be wrong. One thing I might add is that Maggitt seemed to be tall maybe 6'3" or 6'4" but definately needs to add weight. He seemed to be about 195lbs but I could be wrong but he has lots of room to add weight with his height. If he does sign with us, I see a redshirt year to add lots of weight as he doesn't seem to be anywhere close to J.Smith and Corey Miller when they came in and played lots as True Freshman.

I think using a coaches ability to recruit to the personality of the player is just as important as the recuriter as knowing where to find the talent.

Hinshaw may know where the recruits are but how many Qb's can we sign?

This is why when I fly around the country I wear my Big Orange colors. People know who your team is when they see you there is no doubt. I had a guy in Texas (a FL fan) walk across the Airport to talk football with me. This happens all the time. So for all you wanting more and more and more black think this over. You think if this guy was decked out in black with an Orange T it would have caught this kids attention? I think not. The Orange is unique when kids see the orange they know the VOL fans are everywhere. GO VOLS good story.

Hinshaw coached and played at UCF. Dooley also coached with the Miami Dolphins and he says he's got ties down there. Thompson does too when he was at Bama and when he coached at UCF a few years ago

True that. On my flight to San Diego from Fort Worth last spring break i was decked out in my Tennessee Orange. and this couple who were sitting next to me were huge UT fans as they had lived in TN for a couple of years. The whole trip we talked about how Lane Kiffin sucked for leaving UT for USC. needless to say the trip was fun and felt like time just flew by

Randy Shannon did not lockdown Miami in the first place. He didn't even offer Therezie. Shannon had an arrogant attitude, did not have a great relationship with high school coaches or alumni and acted as if getting a Miami offer was something handed down by God himself. Shannon leaving doesn't all of the sudden open a Miami pipeline because Shannon never had it on lock. Shannon should have dominated with his Miami-rich history, but never happened. Player development was horrible under Shannon. For instance, look at Jacory Harris, he has actually gotten worse.

One coach I wish we still had is Eddie Gran. He was a good coach and an ACE recruiter in the south FL area.

6'2" 250. You got any eligibility left? Home made bacon grease gravy and biscuits to add 25-50 lbs and I'm smelling a gap filler

Black is not an official color for UT KNOXVILLE. Your link is for the University of Tennessee system.

This is a serious question. How do you people recognize these recruits when you see them at airports/resturants/supermarkets? If I saw one of our higher profile players I would likely recognize them but I wouldnt know say....Clowney/Clear/Richardson if they were to come up and donkey punch me.

Im just amazed that someone can be in a crowded airport waiting at the baggage claim and say "Hey honey, look its Brent Calloway! You know hes the 7th best OLB in the country!"

lol lol no, i'm a little too old now days! I played football but was All-State & All-City Jr. & Sr. years in baseball for Boyd-Buchanan so baseball was my sport. Little too much good eatin and good drinking contributed to the 250lbs now especially while I was home for the holidays "Mom's cookin" and 3-4 pigout meals at Countryside Cafe in Ooltewah!!! ha ha

This is so true. He knows South Fla like the back of his hand and is very well know there. I guess FSU made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

Eddie Gran left IMO b/c he didn't agree w/ Kiff and his ways. Gran is very faith based and Kiff & Crew is as far away from faith based as it comes. Got tired of the language, booze and all other things the Kiff party liked to partake in.

I have often wondered the exact same thing.

We had better players and more wins in the 90's before you started seeing black apparel in the stands.

why didnt you say so. if you had told people this last year we couldve banned all black from the stadium ( even belts and socks) and played the ducks in the NC game.
