I heard this morning that the Florida Gators are a 73-point favorite in their opening game this year against Charleston-Southern (which is a record BTW), so I did a Google search to look it up on the internet. I found this article:

<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">"Florida</st1:place></st1:State> is a 73 point favorite in most sportsbooks to win their first game against Charleston-Southern in roughly two weeks. Since they play in the SEC East, they only have to face one SEC team, until the SEC Championship game that could possibly challenge them. That would be the LSU Fighting Tigers on October 10th, and LSU isn&#8217;t nearly as loaded as <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Florida</st1:place></st1:State>."

I would take Charleston Southern. I bet Meyer goes vanilla and 3rd string to keep from injuries.

I wish Charleston-Southern would kick the Gators in the nards just for good measure.:)

The LSU game is the one i see as there biggest challenge. they are obviously playing in the SEC but their schedule is set up nicely for them to play in Atlanta this Decemeber.

Thanks, I was using my avatar for current selections, but I got lazy. It should be Boulevard Sixth Glass right now.

Interesting. I was unaware that everyone here agrees with the idea that not a single team in the entire SEC East has any possible chance of beating Florida this year. However, there have now been 6 responses to this post. Three of them are about an avatar, and not one person has disagreed that Florida is totally unchallenged in 100% of their SEC East games this year.

Conventional wisdom says no one will compete with them. Their D is stacked and they lost some skill position on the offense, but no one in the SEC East can match up talent wise across the board. Me personally, I think this team will have the fight, but from an outside perspective, It's right on target.

I'll jump in.

Assuming that LSU is the only team worthy of challenging the gators is a bit presumptuous. Going back to back is not easy at all... with the pressure, hype, and huge target on the back. The gators will get everyone's best shot. I'd put the odds as...

LSU 1:3
Georgia 1:4
Tennessee 1:10
South Carolina 1:20

Also, though not in the SEC, I'd put Florida State at 1:8.

Gators will get so cocky when they play Tenn. if they favorite to win big when they play the vols. Then when the game get here on Sept. 19, that when Tenn. can surprise them. But gators might get too cocky with the Charleston Southern.

If they were so cocky that they morphed into the South Carolina Gamecocks then they'd still win by 30+

Spot on analysis otherwise though. :good!:

Hey y'all. Remember to read the whole article. It says Tennessee may whup up on some gators.

"Another challenge, and this one could lead to a number of e-mails, could be the Tennessee Volunteers whom the Gators play on September 19th. Before everybody sends those e-mails asking if I’m crazy, let me just say that Tennessee returns 22 seniors, 24 juniors and will have, without a doubt, one of the most interesting defensive teams in college football this year.

The Kiffins, father Monte and son Lane, are now in charge in Tennessee. Monte is one of the architects of the famed Cover 2 defense made popular by Tony Dungy in the NFL. The Cover 2 is considered the premier defensive scheme used in the NFL. Could it shut down Urban Meyer’s offense? I doubt it, but the SEC has been ripe with huge upsets the past few years.

Save for Tennessee and LSU, the only other team that could potentially trip up the Gators on their march towards the BCS Championship game would have to be the team they face in the SEC Championship game."

Every game on the schedule worries me a little. You never know in CFB.

I will say this. It will take more than a "scheme" to beat UF.

I like how Meyer says it. The team that tackles and blocks better will win. Right now, I think UF is better at that than the rest of the SEC.

Quotes like this are why Captain Urby gets paid the big bucks, folks.

The reason he gets the big bucks is because his teams can actually do those things better than the opposition on most Saturdays.

It's one thing to say it. It's an entirely different thing to make 18-22 year olds accomplish it consistently.

This year's SEC teams have not yet played a single game. Have you really scouted all their practices?

I am in the nine win section with losses to bama and florida for this season. We get past Ga and beat cocks, rebs
