on his diminished playing time earlier in the year:

"I mean, everybody was wondering what was going on," Oku said. "But Coach (Derek) Dooley felt like I wasn't doing good. Down the stretch a little bit, he felt like just not playing me for a second would get me back going right. I guess it worked out, so you can't argue with it.

"I mean, as a player you don't see it. But I guess coaches see it sometimes different. I was wondering myself what happened. I didn't go in and question it or ask any questions or anything like that. I was just like, 'All right, ride it out and see what happens.' That's basically just what happened."

You would think the coaches would tell him what was going on if he was screwin up. I'm not bashing the Dooley, I just thought this was interesting.

Also Dooley said he needed more energy, but it didn't seem he was told.

Figured it was Neal's troubles recently that put Oku back in there.. it's pretty obvious Neal has better vision and is a more natural RB back there.

i work with athletes and coaches everyday. if a player gets bumped from the rotation/playing time w/out explanation and doesn't come in and ask why then that tells the coach all he needs to know. not bashing oku, but from a coaching standpoint if ur pt isn't important enough to you to ask why you don't have it anymore, or how you can get it back, then you may not have valued it enough initially.

If you move down on the depth chart that should tell you to get it in gear. I don't think a speech is needed.

Neal does have better vision...he just need to learn how to finish runs. Oku has had his shining moments but he isn't having much success this year....not even in the return game...

How do you know what Oku said is accurate? You can always subtley make a mountain out of a mole hill if you want to if it fits your hidden agenda. It seems the coaches were right, doesn't it?

Oku really isn't being utilized this season in a way that shows his strengths. He needs to be in space, not between the tackles.

Expect Oku to have a break out year next year, but this team has too many disadvantages on the offensive line and then play calling as been atrocious.

This is just great. Truly it is. I have criticized Oku that he has been running soft and that Neal seemed to be playing better than him. But you know? It seems you have an agenda that you have to call out people who you think hate Dooley. Seriously, I just thought it was an interesting quote and interesting that Dooley didn't tell what was wrong. How is that an agenda?

Kat is right. If he didn't care enough to ask then it's on him. Besides, he certainly doesn't seem to have a problem with the way things turned out. Sounds like he trusts his coach.

Yes. I forgot to add that Dooley said his energy in practice wasn't good and put it earlier in the thread.

Hey, I can't tell if you're offended that I posted the story or not - hope not, no offense intended. Just thought that more info is always better.

NO! It's cool. I was just saying I forgot to add that part, because that part is important. Thanks for posting the article, I probably should have. Long night :loco:

That's an interesting part. Everyone is saying Oku will transfer, but it sounds like he trust Dooley as much as everyone. Which is important with a guy who lost PT.

i read dooley and company know he was better.... time and again you hear about tauren poole running like he has a huge chip on his shoulder..... well maybe this was the chip we needed to insert on Oku and wake him up... i think we all see way more potential in him he just hasn't show it yet... hopefully this gives him the aggression he needs to be the player he can be.... and honestly we need him to be.... think about all the one two all time punches.... even with our team with say henry and lewis.... imagine if we had 2 tauren pooles right now.... seriously??? it would be a game changer!

Yea Oku, if you don't like what the coach is doing, let him know, throw your shoulder pads in the stands or something. Don't just sit there and be quiet about it and try to earn it back through improved practice.

Does a coach really need to tell a player why he's getting less playing time? It's kind of a given isn't it? They think the player who is playing ahead of you will do a better job.
