From Rivals bball (linked from yahoo):

After watching highlights of Florida forward Dan Werner's flagrant foul on Tennessee guard J.P. Prince, I'm convinced it rises to the level of deserving a suspension.
Werner, a 6-7, 235-pound sophomore, knocked Prince, a 6-7, 205-pound sophomore, from mid-air to the ground with a two-handed block to the hip with 9:18 to go and the Vols leading 71-66. Prince crashed hard to the floor but sprang up immediately and moved toward Werner, jawing at him. Werner was hit with a flagrant foul, and Prince was assessed a technical foul.
Werner made no effort to hold up Prince. He simply blasted him.
Given that the officials did not eject Werner, he should be suspended for one game. If Prince had been injured, which he easily could have been, this would be a much hotter topic than it appears to be. Officials should not allow the result of the foul to determine the severity of a player's punishment.
The Vols had not requested any action of the SEC office as of Wednesday, but they don't have to. All league games are reviewed by on-hand observers, and TV games (the UF-UT game was on ESPN) are taped at the league office in Birmingham, Ala. Action still could be taken, as SEC commissioner Mike Slive has been out of town and is expected to return Thursday.

i wouldn't say it's a dead horse yet if the office decides to take action.

They won't.

If they do, I would petition them to also investigate Pearl's later comment that he considered putting someone in just to go after Werner.

I'm not sure that they will either, but it's not dead yet. And, i'm not sure you have petition rights yet :)

He didn't say that. He said he'd send Brian in to set a pick. And when Brian sets a pick, the entire arena feels it.

Can't we all just get along?:p

I don't think a suspension is in order, nor do I think Pearl was out of line. Both the foul and his comments are just rivalry things. It's gonna be a good hard nose game in the O-dome.

I'll be there.:hi:

Yeah, he should be punished for joking about one of his players setting a legal screen. That's pathetic.

If the officials are corrected after the game by Slive and the Florida player is suspened for any length of time, then UT will most likely be the worse for it when we go down to Gainesvile to play later. I can just see the officials there calling it really close. Chism will probably get called for some kind of foul during warmups considering how close they call him anyway.

Chattanooga Times Free Press | UT BLOG: Hard foul feels worse a day later

If that's what you're referring to, that's laughable lawgator

Guys, don't put this on me. I'm just telling you what some Vols poster said here yesterday. He claimed that Pearl made the comment that had Werner not been given an intentional foul, then he (Pearl) would have sent in someone to go after him.

That poster probably exaggerated when he quoted him, and probably just to get a rise out of me. In fact, my first post back to him was "He did not say that" or words to that effect. I didn't believe it, but the guy claimed Pearl had just said it in an interview.

Don't be made at me. Be mad at your fellow Vol fan for intnetionally mis-stating what Pealr had said about the issue.

That was this post:

I doubt Pearl said anything different than the quote in the Chattanooga Times article

I don't think that was the one I was walking about, although there's my reaction. I got the threads mixed up I guess. At any rate, someone was claiming (evidently over-claiming) Pearl's quote.

It couldn't possibly be that the Florida fan who's team just lost by 22 over-reacted to what he read about a Pearl quote.

No way.

Surely lawyers don't take someone's words at face value and threaten legal action without researching it themselves?

J Smith's foul against God last year was tame in comparison.

Is that what you are talking about law.

Law, I've read many of your posts, and although I consider you somewhat of a pot-stirrer, walking around here with the proverbial big spoon sticking out of your back pocket, you do seem somewhat reasonable most of the time (for a Gator, anyway). But quoting hearsay to make your point makes you fair game, which is why more than a few posters are a little irritated with you.

Just my two cents.

Exactly the one. Thanks.

Guys I don't think I was overreacting given that statement, do you? Now, turns out in hindsight that your own Volsfan, cd12, was tghe one pot stirring, not me.

So your collective apology is accepted.
