5. Tennessee

Total points: 77

Overview: Although defense has been the concern in Knoxville, in terms of star ranking the defensive players scored one point higher than the offense, which could put up huge numbers last season. That should be very reassuring for Tennessee fans that there is a tremendous amount of talent on both sides of the ball now.

There is also an argument that some offensive players had been dramatically under-ranked as QB Hendon Hooker has played better than a three-star and Cedric Tillman as a two-star was a complete miss.

On defense, the secondary has three four-stars in Warren Burrell, Brandon Turnage and Jaylen McCullough so things should get better.

1. Texas A&M: 91
2. Georgia: 88
3. Alabama: 85
4. Florida: 80
5. Tennessee: 77
6. Auburn: 76
7. LSU: 76
8. S. Carolina: 75
9. Kentucky: 74
10. Arkansas: 72
11. Ole Miss: 70
12. Mississippi St: 69
13. Missouri: 69
14. Vanderbilt: 69

Yah, this might put to rest the folks who like to say, "LSU and Florida totally outclass us in talent, people are crazy to think we're ready to challenge them yet."

Of course this is just the starters. Our starters are as good as anybody not named Bama-UGa-A&M. Our problem last year was lack of depth.

That will still be a bit of a problem this season, we're not full up yet, but it will be a WHOOOOOOLE LOT better in 2022 than it was in 2021. No more petering out in the 4th quarter, in most games.

Our lads can stand toe to toe with anyone. They should expect to win. Every. Single. Friggin. Game.

[ok, maybe not two of them, but don't tell the team that]

Go Vols!

Thanks .I see your point . I was talking to a guy yesterday who’s cousin was a starting rb for Vandy a while back definitely not a UT boy but nonetheless said Tennessee should finish with ten total wins yet the one lack is possibly d. I just like unbiased realistic opinions.

If we out-execute "the big middle", we'll like where we're at in December.

Interesting to note: Vandy is closer to us than we are to A&M.
Vandy and Mizzou are overrated.

There isn't a ton of difference from UF to MSU. Those games are far more determined by coaching and development than talent.

I don't know about all of that. The gap from Alabama to us is the same as the gap from us to Vanderbilt.

The surprising thing to me is that Texas A&M is #1 in this ranking. I would have expected them to be #3 behind Alabama and Georgia.

Always thought Bowden did less with more at Fl St. His teams always had speed. Great to hear Coach Heup talk about the efficiency & speed of this team. Looking forward to Tillman, McCoy, Hyatt, Squirrel, Keyton & Callaway being one of the best receiving groups in the country.

Pitt, LSU & KY all winnable but tough outs. Still not on par with Bama & GA talent. Don’t seem to be mentally prepared to compete with FL. Expect 7 wins. Expect a KY win & a bowl win against a 6-6 B1G team.

This is a really important point. With special packages, rotations, and injuries, the starters are only part of the story. This is where UGA and Bama really have an edge.

Or Michigan, Cincinnati and how many times has TAMU been in the playoffs?

Cincy was an anomaly. And what happened to them? Bama didn’t even take them seriously and they blew them out.

Stars will always matter. The more huh caliber HS talent you have, the more high quality wins you get.

All that talent at A&M and Jimbo averages 8.5 wins a year. How many more years before A&M tires of Jimbo Fisher?
