Indiana’s model for building a Champion

Take your ChatGPT and delete it.

The Hoosiers followed the same model Ohio State followed. The most expensive Team in the US.

Dont you all realize Mark is an Indiana Grad and financed this thing. He bought his Alma Mater a Championship. You dont think Knight at Oregon, or dozens of Mogels in So.California that wont do the same thing.

The NFL Minor League Model is you go buy your championship!

You think Indiana has the most expensive roster in the country?

BTW, Indiana does have one of the most talented rosters in the country (just not one of the most expensive)
Yes they do....................AND they bought it. The way OHIO State did and the way EVERY successful team going forward will have to do.
Talented and Expense go hand in hand!!! The FAT Cat Alumni can now spend all they want in getting the bragging rights they want!!

I agree and find this interesting.

I fear we will not see a repeat of this type team. College football is being set up to be about the money. Champions will be the result of buying elite athletes. There will be a division of haves and have nots.

Funny, but I’m not. I’m just using whatever tools available to try and understand a complex and rapidly changing college football environment.

I’m open to your input and sources.
just be sure to actually check what it tells you. AI will crap out lies and given slanted responses.

not saying any of the OP was untruthful, just something to be on the look out for. generally most people consider AI a dubious source based on the general issues it has, regardless of the specific content in question.

AI is pretty incredible. A great starting point for resesrch.

Then drop results on VN to refine (or get even more confused).

Agree. Luck with the schedule one has to play. Luck with limiting of injuries.

Coaching is important, having the top tier talent is important, but without a level of luck that is NOT enough.

We had luck, lots of it in 1998. Every team that has won a championship has moments in those seasons where "luck" was on their side.

1. Play a weak schedule.
2. Play in a weak conference.
3. Wait for SEC teams to beat each other up.
4. Draw the weakest Alabama squad since Shula in the CFP.
5. Cheat.

And if by chance IU loses to Miami, playing for the national title in their home stadium, then everything IU and Cignetti’s accomplished over the last two seasons is meaningless.

I fully expect Miami to steam roll IU. Miami had the tougher path to get to the championship game.

if you are wanting unbiased research, no it isn't. AI will look for whatever prompt you give it.

like if you wanted to research why the sky is blue, you need to phrase it carefully. because AI will generate, as in make it up on the spot with fake references and everything, saying that the sky is actually red, or it will tell you its blue because of America or some nonsense.

Enter “What causes the sky to appear blue?” Into your favorite AI. Like I said, pretty incredible tool.

As a follow up, I asked ChatGPT if the Indiana model was sustainable?

The short answer was YES, a program can survive, compete, and play bowl games.

However, this model will not produce championships…

In today’s landscape:
  • Every national champion will have elite NIL backing
  • Champions consistently stack:
    • 5-star recruits
    • Top-10 transfer talent
    • High retention via NIL

Welcome to the era of haves and have nots. A split NCAA unless there are major changes.

This has been one of my main concerns because, in my view, it will get worse and worse. The "haves," with money, will dominate the playoffs year to year. Indiana is a fluke.

But what will happen in a decade to traditional also-rans, competitive here and there, but without top flight NIL dollars? What will happen to a Wake Forest? An Ole Miss? Nebraska? Oklahoma State?

I actually predicted the other day that UF football will go the way of the Dodo bird and I think a lot of schools will give up, in time.

Indiana has a bunch of graduates playing. They’re more than semi-pro at this point, not having to worry about tough courses or making good grades. Surely that plays a major role in how prepared they look each week.. That’s likely why Vanderbilt out played us this year - Lots of 5th year guys on the field.

Agree - I do think that plays into this.
